This past weekend was the D23 Expo in Orlando and it was full of exciting sneak peeks for Pixar films, Marvel, and of course, Star Wars. LucasFilm didn’t release another teaser trailer (boo!) but they did debut a behind-the-scenes look at The Last Jedi. Check it out:

So…that was awesome. I have watched this behind-the-scenes clip four times now and I’m still seeing new things! There’s so much I could talk about but I’m going to write about what I found most exciting.

1. All of the different locations

Okay, first of all, I’m loving Crait. It’s a beautiful new location that’s going to make the movie so much more epic. That red sand is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in the other Star Wars films and that’s always exciting. Secondly, I can’t wait to see Canto Bight. I’m sure it’s going to be another fascinating location unlike anything else in the Star Wars universe. And then I happened to glimpse at least four other locations. There is, of course, Ach-To, where Luke resides. There will be some sort of First Order base, or maybe more than one, there’s another snow planet (is that possibly Snoke’s planet,) and there was a quick shot of a city upon a rocky shore. There were rumors that one of the filming locations was Croatia so that had to have been that location. That means that’s another new planet. I am just beyond excited to see this movie. And what’s even better is unlike Rogue One, I’m pretty confident that there will be extended sequences in each of these locations which would be awesome.

2. The Costumes

One thing that differentiates Star Wars from other sci-fi films are the costumes. And I’m seeing lots of different styles. There are, of course, the usual First Order garments but now there’s a twist. If you haven’t noticed Rose is seen wearing a blue First Order outfit. Never in the history of Star Wars has the either the Empire or the First Order worn blue. That is so cool that Rian Johnson is changing so many things we think we know about Star War, even the clothes. And there are also two new fighter suit colors for the Resistance. There are the yellow fighter suits which Finn can be seen wearing as well as Rose’s sister Paige in the clip. And Poe is wearing, at one point, a dark gray fighter suit. That’s pretty awesome.

I’m also loving Luke’s darker brown robes that he has on during the clip. And Rey’s new outfit is unsurprisingly awesome. If The Last Jedi doesn’t get nominated for makeup, hairstyle, and costumes this year I will be deeply offended.

3. The Action Scenes

Judging from this behind-the-scenes clip there are going to be a lot of mind blowing action scenes in this movie. You’ve got Poe’s X-Wing exploding from an attack by the First Order. You’ve got Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver learning choreography for fights against multiple foes (I foresee some epic lightsaber fights.) Poe is seen sliding towards a trench on Crait, that’s surely part of an action sequence. Daisy Ridley runs across the beach with her lightsaber. I wish they would’ve shown who she was about to fight. There’s so much they’re still not showing I’m just lost in a flurry of questions. Come on December 15th.

4. The Different Characters and Aliens

It was fun seeing all of the new aliens. There was the strange wolf that was unlike anything I’ve ever seen in Star Wars. There was the space horse that’s been rumored to be part of a sequence upon Canto Bight. There were those strange turtle-looking aliens in the casino that I am sure are going to provide many laughs. I finally got to see one of the Porgs which will be on the island with Luke. They’re awfully cute but I’m hoping they’re not like Ewoks. Rian Johnson has assured us, however, that they aren’t. It was also nice seeing Laura Dern’s character, Admiral Holdo, and Benicio del Toro’s mysterious character, DJ. I can’t wait to see their roles in the movie.

The characters I was most excited to see. however, were Finn and Rose. Their story is being held so under wraps that to see them is exciting even if I don’t know what is going on. And there was a moment in the beginning of the clip where it shows John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran all in one spot laughing amongst themselves. Does that mean they’ll all be together at one point in the movie? I hope so.

4. And Finally…Admiral Ackbar

After that all of that exciting content it was really nice ending the clip off with Admiral Ackbar saying, “It’s a wrap.” That was hilarious. It was also kind of amazing because, maybe I’m reading into this a little bit too hard, but it looks like he’s in a space ship. That means the movie might end in space, kind of like The Empire Strikes Back did. Hopefully, the circumstances won’t be as sad this time around.

Well, those are my favorite aspects of the clip. Even though there were tidbits of new things I’m still just as much in the blue as when I saw the teaser. I’m hoping the next teaser trailer will come out in at least the next two months. Until that time I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and May the Force be with you.
