I love Disney and I love their movies, from The Incredibles and The Lion King to The Avengers and Star Wars. For the past seven or so years, Disney has released all of these live-action adaptations of their famous animated films like The Jungle Book as well as classic fairy tales like Beauty and the Beast. Now to add to that list of movies Disney is releasing their take on a children’s classic, A Wrinkle In Time and a trailer has finally been released. Here it is:
So here’s what I think about this trailer. It’s…interesting, to say the least. Disney makes movies that are visually appealing and this doesn’t fall short in the slightest. There are vibrant colors and costumes, kids falling from impossible heights, strange rooms filled with orange color or darkness, it’s unique. Now did it excite me? I hate to say it but it didn’t.
When I was little I read A Wrinkle In Time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a long time ago so I don’t remember what it was about but I do remember it being a thrill to read. When I heard that Disney was going to make a movie out of it I was ecstatic. I couldn’t wait to see what they would do. And then Oprah was helping make the movie, the director was an African-American woman, I mean it was perfect. And then I saw this trailer and I was underwhelmed.
First of all the first person, you see is Chris Pine. Now I don’t have a problem with Chris Pine. I’ve watched him in the last two Star Trek films, I liked him, to a certain extent, in Wonder Woman, but when you see one actor a little too much it becomes slightly annoying. It seems like he is everywhere. He was in that movie last year Hell or High Water as well as Star Trek, he was in Wonder Woman, he was on Saturday Night Live, and now he’s in A Wrinkle In Time. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not a fan of seeing an actor in every other movie coming out.
Secondly, it just didn’t look that interesting. I don’t know what the movie is about, which in this case, isn’t a good thing because A Wrinkle In Time is a trippy story. The movie could easily be going all over the place. This movie also seems, to me, like a hybrid between Alice in Wonderland and Tomorrowland, both of which weren’t the best movies in the world. I’m going to stay optimistic though. Maybe as it gets closer to March I’ll see some more trailers for it and I’ll start getting enthusiastic.
I will, however, applaud the fact that this is another Disney film with a diverse cast. It’s so nice to see movies these days that appeal to everyone of all skin colors and genders. That’s important and is the one thing I liked seeing from this trailer.
The great news is it’s the first day of Comic-Con and even though I won’t be there I’ll definitely keep an eye out for any announcements, or maybe that awesome Avengers: Infinity War trailer Marvel slipped on everybody last Saturday. Until that time I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for reading.
