The Last Jedi is drawing closer by the second and that means my skepticism about the movie is expectedly heightening. Now, I have no doubt The Last Jedi is going to be enjoyable but it does have to broach some topics or include some moments that’ll make the movie worth this long wait. Here are those things.
1. Luke and Leia’s Reunion
Luke and Leia haven’t seen each other for a very, very long time. I think not only would be a great moment, story-wise but to see Luke and Leia together again after all of these years would not only be beautiful but would also probably be one of my favorite moments of the movie. I’m pretty sure it would be very emotional too. Woo, I can just imagine my tears flowing already.
The cool thing is in the special Vanity Fair issue that came out earlier this year it had a picture of Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill speaking with Kathleen Kennedy. That could only mean that they did happen to film some scenes together and that means there will be a reunion. I’m really hoping there is.
2. The Backstory of Luke’s Academy Being Betrayed by Kylo Ren
Another one of the great mysteries that came out of The Force Awakens was the mystery revolving around Kylo Ren and just exactly what happened with Luke Skywalker. Of course, we all know Ben Solo turned to the dark side and destroyed Luke’s Jedi Academy but just exactly how did that happen. In the teaser trailer, a clip is shown of undoubtedly Luke falling to his knees beside R2-D2 as he watches a building on fire. This has to be a scene depicting what happened during that terrible time.
The Last Jedi has a chance to put some of the mysteries that sprouted from The Force Awakens to rest and this one, I hope, will be one of them.
3. Finn and Rey’s Reunion
Finn and Rey were a great team in The Force Awakens. They survived deadly adventures and both ended up playing huge roles in the fight against the First Order, but their paths at the end of film split due to Finn’s injury and her destiny to find Luke. Now, in The Last Jedi, from what I’ve gleaned so far, Rey is, of course, training to become a Jedi on the remote world of Ach-To while Finn will be on adventures with the Resistance. But according to Rey at the end of The Force Awakens, they will see each other again and I’m hoping they’ll reunite sometime in The Last Jedi. When they do reunite I’m sure that’ll also be one of my favorite moments of the movie.
4. The Mystery Surrounding Rey Somewhat Revealed
I don’t need a complete explanation of who Rey’s parents are. I just want at least a hint. If The Last Jedi ended without so much as a reference to her parentage or some sort of closure about that topic the wait for the ninth Star Wars will be just as agonizing as waiting for The Last Jedi is. I mean, it would just be unnecessarily cruel considering that LucasFilm knows all of us fans want to know who her parents are so we can stop wondering who she is and just exactly why she’s so important.
5. Kylo Ren and Leia’s Not-So-Happy Reunion
If Leia sees her son again it is not going to be pretty. I’m really hoping they do manage to come face to face in The Last Jedi because I know, for a fact, that that will be a crucial moment in the movie, much like in The Force Awakens when Kylo Ren confronted Han Solo. Hopefully, it won’t have the same outcome though.
The reason why that would be such a riveting scene is the conversation between them would undoubtedly be fascinating. Would she scald him for the evil he has committed and his willingness to follow the dark path? Will she be, in some way, glad to see her son after not seeing him for so long? Will he be angry when he sees her or will he be ashamed? I know he hated Han, that much was obvious, but I don’t know how he feels about his mother. Will they fight?! Two force wielders in an epic battle, mother, and son. That would be crazy. Oh, there are so many implications of awesomeness if they do meet in The Last Jedi. I’m just really hoping that it won’t have a devastating outcome, for either of them.
These are the things I want to see in The Last Jedi. Out of the five scenes, I want to be in the movie I’m really hoping the fifth one comes true. It would be, to me, the climax of the movie and it won’t leave me wondering, because of Carrie Fisher’s unfortunate sudden death, just exactly what could have happened if they did see each other.
Well, I thank you for reading this post. It’s a beautiful Saturday, football is back which is always exciting, and like I said in one of my other posts, every day brings The Last Jedi closer and closer. Until next time, have a wonderful day and May the Force Be With You.
