Has Luke Skywalker Secretly Gone to the Dark Side in The Last Jedi?

I am pretty sure that there are going to be a lot of surprises in The Last Jedi, and one of the biggest, if not slightly devastating, shockers would be to find out that after all of these years Luke Skywalker turned bad. Not only would that be one of the most astonishing surprises in Star Wars history but that would just be terrible. Luke Skywalker was a galactic hero. He survived the seductive powers of the Emperor, he saved his father’s soul, and he was a full-blown Jedi Knight by the end of Return of the Jedi. So what could possibly turn the Jedi Master to the dark side? I have no idea but the closer it gets to The Last Jedi’s premiere the more apparent it’s becoming that Luke isn’t the same Luke he was in Episode VI. I’ve just recently seen a couple of new photos of Luke and I’m telling you, they’re kind of creepy. Here they are.

The First Picture

Now, this is a really cool photo of Luke Skywalker but it’s also kind of troubling. Do you notice how there’s red color on one side and blue on the other side? Red, of course, symbolizes the dark side, and blue symbolizes the light. The last time I saw a color clash like this was when Kylo Ren faced Han Solo on StarKiller Base and we know how that turned out. This picture is basically telling us that Luke isn’t going to be the perfect little Jedi that he was in the old trilogy. Luke has changed and it looks like he’s one part good, one part evil. Uh-oh.

The Second Picture

This is an awesome poster in every way but again that’s not the point. The real fact I’m trying to show is that Luke is once again is looking kind of creepy. I mean look at him. That doesn’t look like your average Jedi Master stance. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but he totally looks like a Sith with the hood, the dark clothing, the spread arms, I mean what version of Luke is this? Of course, I could just be overreacting and he’s going to be just as good and righteous as he was in Return of the Jedi as he faced the Emperor but there are just too many signs that this will not be the Luke of old.

Until I watch The Last Jedi this will, of course, just be speculation but if Luke does end up evil…well, that’ll be something to see.

I hope you’ve enjoyed and I thank you for reading this post. Have a wonderful day and May the Force Be With You.

  1. Hello Annlyel, have a look back at Return of the Jedi and the duel between Luke and Vader. When Luke takes refuge under the flooring of the throne room and Vader is taunting and probing Luke’s thoughts, look closely at Luke’s face just as Vader talks about Leia and says “Maybe she will! (turn to the Darkside)” you will see a lighting effect that is slightly disturbing! (and similar to the pics you have posted!)

  2. The idea of Luke going dark is not that astonishing. I was actually the theme of a major set of expanded universe novels, from the 90s I think. I believe the story was about a clone of the Emperor coming back and Luke choosing to fall to the dark side in order to destroy him. It was not an incredibly imaginary story. However, I think the most likely story in The Last Jedi is Luke developing some sort of middle-path, neutral philosophy, a balance of light and dark (which was also in the EU, through one of the video games). In that case, the end of the Jedi means the end of the pure-light philosophy in favor of the neutral one. Seeing how much Ep7 appeared to be influenced by the EU, I think either concept it possible. He’s definitely not going to be as righteous as he was in RotJ. He’s got clear reason to have grown a bit cold over the years.
