Marvel Studios and DC Universe have had quite the contest with their movies for years, with Marvel’s movies, of course, winning 100% of the time. But lately after the widely acclaimed success of Wonder Woman, the DC Universe has kind of been able to place their mark in the superhero world with a legitimately decent film while Marvel’s films this year haven’t stood up to the standard, financially and storywise, that they usually do. Guardians of the Galaxy was an unfortunately underwhelming sequel and SpiderMan: Homecoming, while it got positive reviews, didn’t make as much money as expected. Now it did end up becoming one of the highest grossing films this year but it took a long time to get to that point. Now Marvel Studios and the DC Universe have a movie coming out in November to directly combat each other and I’m excited to see how things play out.
The question is, so far, which movie looks more enticing to watch? Is Thor going to steal the show with his short haircut and rad new buddies or is Justice League taking the world by storm with their incredible assemble of beloved characters facing off against a seemingly unstoppable force? Here’s what I think.
Thor: Ragnarok is undoubtedly going to be a fun film to watch. There’s going to be plenty of humor, maybe too much, in fact, the characters are going to be likable, and it is going to be a visually appealing film. Here’s the thing though. Will Thor: Ragnarok have that epic factor? Will it have that thing that Marvel movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier have in terms of those serious moments that really make the movie stand out and help affect the events in the future? Or will the humorous vision of Taika Waititi turn this new Thor movie into a laughable joke?
I frankly think that at this point it could go either way. It will either be one of the best Marvel movies made so far or it will be the likes of Ant-Man, which is not good at all.
Now yesterday Justice League debuted a new trailer and I thought it was great. There was action, action, and some more action. And the trailer was basically spilling epicness. So Justice League has definitely got that covered. The only thing is, I’m still not convinced that the story will be decent. You can only have so much action before the story utterly ruins the film.
Now which movie looks overall better? If I had to judge off of the trailers I would have to say that Thor: Ragnarok wins simply because each trailer looked great compared to Justice League whose latest trailer was really the only one that was very good. But, to tell you the truth, I’m more excited to see Justice League. Marvel’s got a formula, their movies are always enjoyable. But what DC has that Marvel doesn’t have is their movies are a lot more serious, and I like that. There are undoubtedly going to be jokes left and right throughout Thor: Ragnarok. DC movies have less humor and focus more on the intense aspects of the films. I appreciate that. I also am used to Marvel’s formula so it won’t be anything that new to see. Justice League, however, could end up being the surprise of the year and that’s a lot more interesting to me.
Well, there’s my post. I’m excited to see both of these films and write reviews on them. Hopefully, they’ll both be so fantastically entertaining that I’ll want to see them each a second time. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
