Star Wars is packed full of incredible characters throughout all of its nine films and while most of the characters usually head on their own path some of these lovable individuals end up becoming remarkable teams that have become iconic in film history. And so today I’m going to talk about the duos in Star Wars that have always brought a smile to my face and made the movies that much better. Enjoy!
Finn and Rose
The latest installment in this nine film-and-counting franchise, The Last Jedi, brought a new character to the Star Wars universe, the adorable Rose Tico, and placed her alongside the lovable Finn throughout the entire movie, immediately making them one of the greatest and cutest duos in Star Wars so far.
One of my favorite scenes in The Last Jedi was when Rose first meets Finn.
Not only is it one of the funniest scenes in the movie but we get to see how Finn has really become the “big deal” that he lied and said he was in The Force Awakens due to Rose gushing over him when she first meets him. She soon realizes that Finn was actually trying to desert and that’s when we get to see that her character isn’t one to be trifled with which I love. As she’s taking the stunned Finn to her superiors it immediately establishes the chemistry between the two characters as they realize what they must do at the same time to fix the hyperspace tracking situation. From thereon they partake in a daring mission that strengthens their friendship and highlights how great of a team they really are. And thanks to Rian Johnson not killing Rose after she saved Finn from committing suicide to save the Resistance I’m sure the two will have many more exciting adventures together and I can’t wait to see them.
Han and Chewbacca
Han and Chewbacca have been a great duo since A New Hope. Seeing them banter back and forth is one of my joys when it comes to Star Wars and it has been ever since I was introduced to the two in A New Hope. One of my favorite quotes out of all of the movies in fact is when Han says to Chewie in The Empire Strikes Back, “Laugh it up, fuzzball.” That’s some classic Star Wars hilarity right there. And even when they were in their final movie together they were still were the lovable smuggler rascals that they have always been. Even though this duo is no more thanks to a certain evil son *cough, Kylo Ren, cough* they have brought me much joy and that’s why they are one of my favorite duos in Star Wars.
C-3PO and R2-D2
C-3PO and R2-D2 were the first major characters the world was introduced to in A New Hope and even now, after forty years, they still have managed to grace every movie with their wonderful droid selves and that is so cool. Who would think artificial characters such as droids could have such personality and presence even though they don’t even possess facial expressions? I mean sometimes Anthony Daniels genius at making C-3PO such an expressive character with his body movements is so phenomenal that my eyes play tricks on me and I think the golden droid’s eyes widen at times when he’s surprised and yet they never move. That’s kind of amazing.
Another reason why I love these two is because of the comical conversations that they sometimes have. Like when R2 has an attitude and he starts cursing C-3PO out in droid language. That’s always hilarious.
Finn and Rey
I absolutely love the dynamic between Finn and Rey. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega’s chemistry is magnetic, their characters are individually exciting to watch and so when they’re together they are an even greater team, and they made The Force Awakens not only one of my favorite Star Wars movies but also one of my favorite movies period.
And they went through so much together. They were able to escape Jakku due to Rey’s awesome piloting and Finn’s nice shooting, they survived being eaten by Rathtars, they both helped sabotage Starkiller Base, and they both fought Kylo Ren. They had quite an adventure together and I enjoyed watching every bit of it.
When they split ways at the end of The Force Awakens it was a bittersweet parting but I was excited to see them undoubtedly reunite in The Last Jedi. Unfortunately they only shared one scene together in the entire two-hour and thirty minute film but even though it was only a brief hug it ended up becoming one of my favorite moments in the movie. Hopefully in Episode IX with them reuniting they’ll have a little more onscreen time together so we can see them return to being the wonderful duo that they are.
Kylo Ren and Rey
If you would’ve told me a month ago that Kylo Ren and Rey were going to end up becoming a formidable team, if only briefly, and would fight together side by side I would’ve laughed because I would’ve thought the idea would be too amazing to actually come to fruition. Well it did and I still can’t believe it!
In The Force Awakens they were anything but allies. There was a hint of curious tension between the two but overall they despised one another. Then you fast forward two years and a bunch of theories and Kylo Ren and Rey spent most of the time, when they were onscreen together, not trying to kill each other but instead partaking in intimate conversations that led to their eventual team-up and I still am slightly shocked that it happened.
Not only was it utterly riveting watching them talk to each other and form a bond unlike anything I’ve seen before in a Star Wars movie but seeing them fight the Praetorian Guards was a gift I didn’t know The Last Jedi was going to give me. Watching them take on their foes and help each other throughout the battle was not only thrilling but simply a beautiful spectacle that I would’ve never imagined.
Unfortunately because Kylo Ren is Kylo Ren he ended up ruining what was going to be one of the greatest duos in cinema history by remaining as his evil self but their team-up was such an incredible experience that they have become my favorite duo in Star Wars.
Now there’s no telling if they may reunite on neutral ground again but, because that is most likely not going to happen, I’m going to treasure the few moments they shared as allies because that was simply awesome.
I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it and I thank you for reading. May the Force Be With You…Always.
