My Fifteen Favorite ‘Star Wars’ Characters

Early last year I wrote a post about my ten favorite Star Wars characters and at the time Rogue One had been out for a little less than two months, I had just recently discovered that Episode VIII was going to be called The Last Jedi, and I simply had an entirely different view on Star Wars as a whole.

Now, I’m updating the list and because there are so many more characters that I like I’m extending the list to my fifteen favorite characters. Enjoy!

15. Cad Bane

Cad Bane is undoubtedly one of the coolest bounty hunters that I have ever seen in Star Wars. He has this Country-Western sort of vibe with the twang of his voice and, obviously, his outfit. He’s also one of the slipperiest bounty hunters that I’ve ever seen. It seemed that every time he was about to be captured he got away. Ugh.

Whenever he showed up on a Clone Wars episode I always got extra interested because usually when he appeared it meant that something serious was about to go down. There are a lot of characters in Star Wars but he managed to become one of my favorite characters.

14. Finn

Finn is such a great character. He was the first ex-stormtrooper to appear in a Star Wars movie and I loved his growth throughout The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. In Episode VII he was much more unsure of himself and his heroic actions were based solely off of emotion. In Episode VIII he learned what it meant to be a hero and while he was at first hesitant to take that responsibility by the end of the film he was a full blown Resistance fighter willing to do anything for the cause. I can’t wait to see the final leg of his journey in Episode IX.

13. Chirrut Imwe

Chirrut is awesome for so many reasons. He’s the first blind character to be in a Star Wars movie, he was the first person to possess the Force as strong as he did and not be a Jedi or a Sith, and he was one of the first major Asian characters to be in a Star Wars movie. Even though he’s in only one movie he was so incredible that he forever wiggled his way into my heart.

12. Poe Dameron

A lot of people couldn’t stand Poe in The Last Jedi and yes, at times he was very brash, but he’s one of my favorite characters in Star Wars simply because he’s such an incredible pilot. Whenever he gets into a cockpit and starts piloting a ship, whether it’s a Tie Fighter or an X-Wing, I always get so happy. When he whoops with exhilaration after performing something incredible I always pump my fist along with him because of my excitement. Poe, I’m sure due to the events in The Last Jedi, will be a great leader in Episode IX but I hope we’ll get some more piloting action from him.

11. Admiral Holdo

I can’t believe it but Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo has become one of my favorite characters in Star Wars and I think it’s because I wasn’t expecting for her to have such a large role in The Last Jedi. I truly expected her to barely be in the movie and she ended up having more screen time than Leia (I think)! I absolutely loved her strength, her tenacity, her sternness, and the fact that she performed one of the coolest maneuvers in Star Wars by jumping into hyperspace through an entire First Order fleet is beyond exceptional. She only graced one film but her stamp on the Star Wars universe was mighty.

10. Ahsoka Tano

I’ve just started watching the Clone Wars (great show by the way but that’s another topic) and I knew who Ahsoka Tano was but I hadn’t watched the show so she was basically an unknown character to me…until now. Oh my goodness, I’m an Ahsoka fan. Whether it was a cartoon or not she is undoubtedly one of the coolest Jedi I’ve ever witnessed. And you can totally tell she was Anakin’s padawan. She was feisty, strong, wise, charmingly childish at times, but seeing her grow up on the show was utterly fascinating.

I love Ahsoka Tano so much that now I’m upset that they haven’t decided to make an Ahsoka Tano stand-alone film. I’m sure it would be so exciting following her journey after she left the Jedi Order and seeing her eventually take on her old master, Anakin Skywalker, once he was the dark Sith lord, Darth Vader. All in all, thanks to the Clone Wars cartoon she has now become one of my favorite characters.

9. Han Solo

Who doesn’t love Han Solo? He’s hilarious, he’s heroic, he’s charmingly cocky, and he was such a perfect character. When he returned in The Force Awakens it was so amazing. I still remember watching the first official trailer for Episode VII for the first time and seeing Han saying, “Chewie, we’re home.” It was an impactful moment and one of my favorite reveals in a trailer.

And he was a perfect addition in the movie as well. The film needed his wise cracking and hilarious moments and he made The Force Awakens that much better. Now that he’s getting his own movie I’m hoping that it’ll be great because he’s such a wonderful character that his film can’t be that bad (I hope).

8. Captain Cassian Andor

Cassian became one of my favorite Star Wars characters because he was so original. There had never been a Rebellion spy in a movie before and it was interesting seeing the darker side of the Rebellion. I loved Cassian’s story in Rogue One as he went from being a cold-hearted assassin to a rebel with a conscience. It was a blast to watch and I’m so glad he’s part of the Star Wars universe.

7. General Leia

Leia is fantastic, simple as that. She’s been awesome since her first appearance in A New Hope and she has been great ever since. With her return in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi she not only became a better character but she continued increasing her legacy. I mean seeing her shoot Poe straight out of a coma was so incredible that it became my favorite Leia moment and helped her become one of my favorite Star Wars characters. It’s a shame Carrie Fisher died because we won’t get to see her again in Episode IX but I’m glad she was able to return in this new trilogy.

6. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan is so cool! He’s the only person who I legitimately enjoyed in the prequel trilogy and the fact that he is getting his own stand-alone film is super exciting. (Please bring Ewan Mcgregor back. Don’t get anyone else to play Obi-Wan.) He is undoubtedly one of the greatest Jedi ever to be in Star Wars and he will always have a special place in my heart.

5. Elite Praetorian Guards

When I first saw these crimson clad warriors I was astonished by how amazing they looked. They were another version of the infamous Imperial Royal Guards except they were actually cooler. Can you believe that? They didn’t have a lot of time in The Last Jedi but whenever they were in a scene it was absolutely incredible. And that remarkable fight scene that they participated in was downright epic! These guards might not have individual names but they were so incredible that they have become some of my favorite Star Wars characters.

4. Luke Skywalker

Luke was the hero of the original trilogy and he made those three films such a blast to watch. After thirty years he finally returned in The Force Awakens with one of the most impactful moments in Star Wars as Rey approached him with his old lightsaber on the secluded world of Ach-To. It’s one of my favorite scenes in Star Wars and it led into The Last Jedi perfectly.

For two years I was waiting to see what was going to happen and it was riveting watching Luke in the movie. He was such a changed person since the last time we saw him but he was still the same person, he had just been through a lot. It was shocking at times seeing him so defeated but it was a realistic development considering all he had been through. His final act undoubtedly redeemed him so Luke, at the end of the day, was still a hero.

And the fact that he became so powerful that he could project a false image of himself over thousands of lightyears is ridiculously impressive. All in all, Luke is awesome!

3. Darth Vader

Darth Vader is simply cool. His black armor, his skeletal helmet, his flowing cape, his Darth Vader-ish attitude, Darth Vader has fascinated me since I first saw him when I was a child. I mean who doesn’t love a character who can literally choke somebody through a television?! Every one of his scenes is either riveting or just plain fun to watch and hopefully we’ll get more Darth Vader in future films.

2. Rey

Rey was just a scavenger when we first met her on Jakku. She didn’t know she had the Force or the crazy adventure she was about to partake in. She didn’t know her parents were never coming back for her and that they were mere drunks willing to sell her for money. And yet even after finding out her destiny wasn’t cut out the way she had hoped she remained benevolent, strong, and ended up turning down the path of the Jedi rather than the dark path of the Sith. That’s pretty awesome, if you ask me.

I am absolutely thrilled to see how powerful she’ll be in Episode IX. Throughout the two films she has already proved to be a formidable Jedi and I have no doubt that she is going to be even more AWESOME when next we see her.

1. Kylo Ren

Last time I wrote this post Kylo Ren had been my third favorite character and Darth Vader had ranked as my number one Star Wars character but now after The Last Jedi things have drastically changed. I can’t believe Kylo Ren is my favorite character but when I really think about it he is.

Every time he’s onscreen I get very, very happy because not only is Adam Driver a remarkable actor but Kylo Ren is simply a riveting character. I think he is the most complex character in Star Wars at the moment and I am profoundly fascinated to find out what happens to him.

He’s also just very cool. The way he twirls his lightsaber when he fights, the way he looks with that dark hair and all black outfit, he’s just magnificent. Maybe one day he’ll be dethroned but it’s going to take a really amazing character for that to happen…or maybe just a Darth Vader stand-alone movie. If I get to see Darth Vader kicking butt for an entire film I will be the happiest Star Wars fan on Earth.

Well, this is my list. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day. May the Force Be With You.
