The Characters I’m Most Excited To See in ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’: In Increasing Order

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be coming out in nearly three months and after an exciting article from Entertainment Weekly last week featuring the movie my knowledge of these new, and old, characters has been broadened. So, today I’m going to share with you the character’s stories I’m most interested in seeing in Solo. Enjoy!

Val

Thandie Newton in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

In the Entertainment Weekly article I discovered what this character’s name is as well as her involvement in the film. She’s an accomplice of Beckett’s and that makes her super interesting. I know for a fact just from briefly seeing her in the trailer that she’s totally shady. She looks like she’ll backstab you so fast. Awesome! In Star Wars we’ve never fully been introduced to the criminal underworld and the shady inhabitants of its enterprise and, like Rogue One, it’s going to be fascinating seeing another side of Star Wars that hasn’t been shown before.

Tobias Beckett

Woody Harrelson and Alden Ehrenreich in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

When I heard that Woody Harrelson had been cast in the movie as Han’s mentor I already knew he was going to play a crooked character and after seeing him in the teaser he practically screams swindler. I don’t exactly know, of course, how he’s going to betray Han but I have a deep feeling in my gut that he is at some point in the movie. In my last post about Solo I wrote about how exciting it was not seeing who the villain of the film was but maybe I did. Maybe Beckett is the villain. The cool thing is I only have a couple of weeks from three months before I find out the truth.

Chewbacca

Chewbacca is one of the coolest and most beloved sidekick ever made in cinema and now that we get to see how he came into the fold of this massive story I’m just excited. It’ll also be interesting seeing how his relationship was at first with Han. When we first meet them in A New Hope they’re already established friends but when they first knew each other was their relationship cordial or a little tense? That’ll be one of the things in the movie that I’m really anxious to see and I have a feeling it’s going to be beautiful watching them become unbreakable friends before my eyes.

Han Solo

I already know a lot about Han Solo but discovering how he became the charming smuggler that he is in A New Hope will be interesting to see. I mean, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, I now know that he was an orphan. That has already given me a completely different perspective on him because now it’s starting to make sense why he probably wasn’t the best father in the world. If he was raised off of his own criminal antics hustling for food, living on the streets, and let’s say the closest thing he’s ever had to a father is his mentor, Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) who is undoubtedly crooked then it would make sense that he wouldn’t know how to raise a child. Wow, I really think this movie is going to shed a lot of light on his character and that is awesome.

L3-37

Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

The fact that this movie will introduce the first major female droid in Star Wars is not the only thing that is already exciting about this character. The description on her was just as fascinating as well. First, she’s Lando’s droid but their relationship is more of a partnership rather than a master/servant sort of bond. She has found a way to make it in the galaxy by supposedly building herself a body from different body parts of droids and that sounds so incredible. I’ve never seen a droid like her before and I can’t wait to see her attitude in the film. Will she be funny, sarcastic, mean, sad, hopeful, austere, or a mixture of all of these emotions? I can’t wait to find out.

Qi’Ra

Emilia Clarke in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

I’m loving the new women of Star Wars. Rey, Jyn Erso, Admiral Holdo. Rose, and now Qi’Ra. They’ve all been fantastically strong women who haven’t had to take any mess from men and I’m sure she won’t be an exception. I’m excited to see what her involvement in Han’s life will be and how she handles herself among criminals.

I’m also interested in seeing her relationship with the other characters. Is she a distrustful person or someone who can get along with practically anybody? And what type of criminal is she exactly? Is she a pretty faced assassin? Is she a smuggler? Or is she the person who can get you in the inside of a facility that others can’t due to her looks? Oh my goodness, I’m so excited. I love being introduced to new characters in Star Wars, whether they’re major or not, and seeing all of these new faces and personalities is just so much fun. It’s one of the reasons why I’m such a big fan of this franchise.

Lando Calrissean

While Lando was one of the more well-known characters of the original trilogy he definitely wasn’t as developed as the other characters were. In both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi he served a purpose in those movies but that was about all. While this movie is mainly about Solo I can’t help but be excited about Lando in the movie. His backstory is much less known than Han’s and it makes me that much more excited to see him in the movie.

The fact that he is a major character in this movie is exciting in itself but I’m also interested in his side of the story. How was his relationship with Han when they first met? Were they friends or rivals? Secondly, how will he react to losing the Millenium Falcon? Surely he’ll be devastated losing his beautiful ship to some upstart that he might not even like at that point in the movie. And how will he become friends with Han? These are all questions that I can’t wait to be answered.

I can’t believe Lando is the character I’m most excited to see in this movie but I can’t help it. We’re finally getting a better glimpse at his character and this is super interesting.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day. May the Force Be With You.
