What’s Up With Villains Getting Chopped Up in ‘Star Wars’?

One of the most shocking and gruesome surprises in The Last Jedi was when Kylo Ren killed Snoke. When I saw that scene for the first time I was stunned…and confused. So much mystery had surrounded the powerful, menacing Supreme Leader that avid Star Wars theorists were trying to figure out who he was for two years straight only to get all of those theories flushed down the drain. Now, of course, he might not be dead but as it stands he perished in that throne room and it was a terrific surprise that I would’ve never seen coming. But then the other day I watched The Phantom Menace after not having watched it in a loooong while and when Darth Maul got cut in half I realized a lot of villains have come to rather gruesome endings involving getting sliced in half or getting beheaded and so I just wanted to write a small post examining the defeats of a few of Star Wars’ most prominent villains.

The Reasons Why the Millennium Falcon Is and Not A Piece of Junk

The Millennium Falcon just might be the most iconic ship in science fiction history (besides the Enterprise in Star Trek) and the reason of that is because, well, it’s an awesome ship. It’s not a new vehicle that’s been introduced in the Star Wars universe through the prequel era or these new Disney/Star Wars films but rather in the first ever Star Wars in 1977. In the forty-one years of this fabulous franchise the Millennium Falcon has graced five out of the nine Star Wars films made so far (six if you count the eensy-weensy cameo it made in Revenge of the Sith) and now the Millennium Falcon is going to play a major role again in the upcoming Solo movie.

The Millennium Falcon is such an amazing ship it’s just as much of a character as the characters who pilot the bulky craft and that’s pretty amazing. I mean, if there was ever a decision to have the Millennium Falcon destroyed in a space battle the internet would probably break from the sheer outrage from Star Wars fans, including me, that’s how beloved this ship has become.

I didn’t realize how much I loved the Millennium Falcon until I saw it brought back to life in the teaser for The Force Awakens. I remember seeing the Falcon at the end of the short teaser and nearly losing it because I was SO excited to see its return. And I’m even more excited to see the Millenium Falcon in its early years in Solo especially considering that at one time it was clean! *jaw drop* Who knew the Falcon had a spic-and-span interior once? That’s kind of amazing.

But the thing about the Falcon that has continously brought a smile to my face is the fact that everyone calls it a piece of junk and I don’t quite understand why. Ever since I saw the Millennium Falcon for the first time when I was a child I thought it was an AWESOME ship but the characters in Star Wars continue to berate it because of its, I guess, junky exterior. So, today I’m going to share with you all of the reasons why I believe it actually is and not a piece of junk. Enjoy!

Is Comedy Marvel’s Secret Sauce or a Hindrance?

I love Marvel movies. They have provided me SO much happiness in the past six years and I kind of can’t imagine a movie year without a Marvel blockbuster being in the mix. So, a couple of days ago, I watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier ’cause I haven’t watched it in a long while and I truly forgot how much I love that movie. It’s such a perfectly made film with so many unexpected twists and turns (Nick Fury’s “death,” Steve Rogers becoming a fugitive, Secretary Pierce was the main villain, the Winter Soldier was Captain America’s friend, Bucky, etc.) and it’s one of the least funniest installments in the Marvel franchise and yet it’s my favorite Marvel movie. So that brings me to the question of this post; Is Comedy Marvel’s Secret Sauce or a Hindrance?

Before I give an answer let’s compare some of Marvel’s greatest movies.

The Cosmic Force Just Might Be the Coolest New Creation in ‘Star Wars’

The Last Jedi brought a lot of new concepts to the Star Wars table as it tore down preconceived notions of the Force and the Jedi and created some new things that’ll ensure years of more Star Wars movies. The greatest new addition that has been presented to the Star Wars universe since Kylo Ren…and Rey, of course, isn’t a tangible thing like the Praetorian Guards or the jaw dropping Supremacy but rather a new element of the Force called the Cosmic Force. Let me give you a rundown on the powers of the Force if you’re not familiar.

The Living Force: The concept of the Living Force was brought to life in The Phantom Menace as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jin spoke about it to his then padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi but it’s been around since The Empire Strikes Back when Yoda tried to teach young Luke what the meaning of the Force was.

The Living Force is the force between all living things. It’s the here and the now, the constant energy that imbues the Star Wars universe and can be felt by everything despite the thing knowing it’s being manipulated by the Force or not. And then there’s a new area of the Force that has been introduced and it’s called the Cosmic Force.

The Cosmic Force: The concept of the Cosmic Force is simply the balance between the Light and the Dark. Both Snoke and Luke Skywalker understood this deeper notion of the Force.

Snoke: “Darkness rises, and light to meet it.”

Luke Skywalker: “Powerful light, powerful darkness.”

But here’s why the Cosmic Force is so ridiculously awesome. Let me take you through the Star Wars movie timeline, from the years of The Phantom Menace all the way until the present years of The Last Jedi to give you a full idea of powerfully incredible the Cosmic Force is.

The Four Best Deleted Scenes of ‘The Last Jedi’

Yesterday I got the Blu-Ray for The Last Jedi and immediately proceeded to watch the fourteen deleted scenes that came with it. While they were all enjoyable four of the deleted scenes really stood out to me and I’m here to share them with you. Enjoy!

Rey Goes to “Save” The Caretakers

Thanks to The Last Jedi novel I already knew about this scene where Rey goes to save the Caretakers from “raiders” seeking to plunder the Caretakers’ village but seeing it in motion was really enjoyable. It showcased Rey in a different light than her other scenes in the movie because she was at her most, I’d say, heroic but it was also startling to witness because she was also very much enthralled with the dark side during this scene. I mean she was so angry and that anger fueled her strength during this part.

I wonder if this is a kind of precursor to a fault she might face in Episode IX. She is very protective of the people she loves or cares about and what if she was faced with a choice; turn to the dark side and save your friends or remain with the light and lose them. I have a feeling she wouldn’t hesitate to turn to the dark side if it meant the survival of her friends. Uh-oh.
