I didn’t jump on the Marvel bandwagon until 2012’s The Avengers came out. I remember being excited about the movie considering that it was going to bring all of these major superheroes together but I wasn’t watch-it-on-opening-day excited. In fact, I think I saw The Avengers about a month into its box-office run but when I did eventually see the film I was stunned. The movie was not only fantastically entertaining, it was perfect, and it’s the moment when I became a Marvel fan. The one thing Marvel didn’t have for quite some time, however, were heroines except for Black Widow and Agent Peggy Carter. They were the sole Marvel heroines until 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy which is kind of ridiculous.
Now jump four years later and there are Marvel heroines left and right to be excited about. In fact, next year we’re going to finally get a female-led Marvel superhero movie in Captain Marvel and I’m so excited to see it. Marvel Studios just can’t seem to fail and that’s why I know it’s going to be a great film.
So, today I’m going to share with you my ranking of all of these incredible Marvel heroines. Enjoy!
12. Agent 13
I wish I could say I like Agent 13 but honestly, I don’t. She had a small but interesting role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier but her role in Civil War as Steve Roger’s love interest was more of a hindrance to the movie than a bonus.
I used to love Gamora. At the time of Guardians of the Galaxy she was the only major superhero lady besides Black Widow and she was awesome! I loved how she continuously staved off Star-Lord’s romantic advances, I loved her fashion style, and I definitely loved her butt-kicking ability. Then she returned in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and all of her awesomeness felt flushed down the drain. She barely did anything in the movie but talk and swoon over Star-Lord for a huge portion of the movie. In fact, she had zero fighting scenes. That’s pretty lame. Now I’m sure she’ll be given a larger role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War but until then she stands as one of my least favorite Marvel heroine.
Nebula, like Gamora, was much cooler in Guardians of the Galaxy rather than its sequel. In the first movie she was a cyborg nightmare, a villain worth being afraid of, but in the sequel they softened her and it was kind of unfortunate. I understand that they had to make her turn good but she lost all of that fire that made her so awesome in the first place. And like Gamora, zero fighting scenes. That’s a shame.
9. Agent Peggy Carter
I liked Peggy because she wasn’t just a pretty face. She was also tough and strong-willed as well and that’s why she was such a great character. It’s a shame that she could only make one major appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger but she definitely won me over.
What I liked the most about Mantis was her sweet, innocent personality. She’s never been around a lot of people before and it makes her a little awkward in the presence of others but that’s why she’s so great. She was my favorite thing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and I’m excited to see her in Avengers: Infinity War. Her ability is pretty cool too. 🙂
7. The Ancient One
One of the reasons why I enjoyed Doctor Strange so much was because of the characters and she was one of those characters. I loved her wisdom, I absolutely loved how she handled Doctor Strange when he was acting like a supreme jerk, and she was a fabulous addition to the movie. Unfortunately she died but she’s still one of my favorite Marvel heroines.
I knew I was going to love Nakia’s character as soon as I saw her in the trailers for Black Panther but after watching the movie my excitement went up to about a ten. I loved that she wasn’t placed in that infamous love interest bubble that so many women in Marvel have been a part of. She actually had an important role in the movie beyond just her relationship with T’Challa and that was refreshing. She’s also just an awesome character. 🙂
5. Scarlet Witch
Since Scarlet Witch appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron I’ve liked her character a lot. I loved her strange ability, I loved her style of clothing and her Scarlet Witch outfit, the only problem is she’s been such an underutilized character. Her role in Avengers: Age of Ultron was substantial but in Civil War she was used as just another outlet for romance in the film as the movie introduced the imminent relationship between her and Vision. And I feel the same thing is going to happen to her in Avengers: Infinity War. She’s such an awesome character and they continue to use her as simply a portal for romance in the Marvel movies but she’s still one of my favorite Marvel heroines.
Shuri was SO AWESOME! She is such a vibranium whiz! The incredible things that she has made from vibranium is astonishing and I am so excited to see her what other tech surprises she unveils in Avengers: Infinity War, like Captain America’s new gauntlets or Bucky’s new vibranium arm, what secret surprises do those new weapons have in store?
She’s also just a really great character. She was funny, charismatic, and I hope she’s going to be around for a long time to come.
Oh my goodness, I love me some Valkyrie. I’ve just recently watched Thor: Ragnarok and she’s such a fabulous character. What I love the most about her is she’s unlike any of the other Marvel heroines so far. She’s a drinking, no mess, full-of-attitude, super tough type of gal and I love her! She brought such sass to the movie and I loved that she wasn’t utilized into the movie as a love interest for Thor. Yeah Thor was crushing on her but that’s why this movie was so awesome. Usually it’s the other way around where the woman is the one crushing on the hot dude. And she wasn’t afraid of anything or anybody, well she was a little afraid of Hela, but besides that she would kick your butt without thinking twice about it. I haven’t seen her in any of the marketing for Avengers: Infinity War but hopefully she’ll have at least a tiny role in the movie.
2. Black Widow
Black Widow is so cool. With every movie she’s become a better and better character and now with her returning in Avengers: Infinity War with a blond hairdo and a new outfit I am beyond excited to see her. I’m so glad she’s getting her own movie in 2020 because she’s too awesome of a character to not have her own film. I can’t wait to see her kick some alien butt. *wide grin*
1. General Okoye
I was excited for Black Panther for so many reasons but I didn’t realize the women in this movie were going to steal the show like they did and General Okoye was a huge part of this happening. Not only was it awesome that the general of T’Challa’s armies was a woman but Okoye is such a fantastic character. She’s nice to only those who she trusts (awesome,) she wears the most beautiful armored garb, her fighting skills are OFF THE CHAIN, and she stole my heart when she tossed that wig in that club fight.
I’ve seen a lot of awesome heroines in my time but in every scene that she graced she utterly stole the show and I am beyond excited to see her in Avengers: Infinity War kicking booty alongside the Avengers.
Well, this is my ranking of the Marvel heroines so far. Eventually this list will have to be updated after Wasp and Captain Marvel come into the picture and that’s going to be an exciting post to write. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fabulous day.
