What’s Up With Villains Getting Chopped Up in ‘Star Wars’?

One of the most shocking and gruesome surprises in The Last Jedi was when Kylo Ren killed Snoke. When I saw that scene for the first time I was stunned…and confused. So much mystery had surrounded the powerful, menacing Supreme Leader that avid Star Wars theorists were trying to figure out who he was for two years straight only to get all of those theories flushed down the drain. Now, of course, he might not be dead but as it stands he perished in that throne room and it was a terrific surprise that I would’ve never seen coming. But then the other day I watched The Phantom Menace after not having watched it in a loooong while and when Darth Maul got cut in half I realized a lot of villains have come to rather gruesome endings involving getting sliced in half or getting beheaded and so I just wanted to write a small post examining the defeats of a few of Star Wars’ most prominent villains.

1. Jango Fett

Jango Fett

Jango Fett was an interesting villain in Attack of the Clones because he was and still is the only major bounty hunter villain that’s appeared in a Star Wars movie. Unfortunately he was in the prequels so of course he wasn’t utilized to his full potential but at least he got a substantial role. He did, however, come to a rather gruesome end as Mace Windu cut off his hand and then lopped his head off. Um…ouch. Jango Fett lasted for all of one movie and that was too bad.

2. Count Dooku

This is, I’d say, still one of the ugliest deaths in Star Wars. He wasn’t a very imposing villain as it was in Attack of the Clones (in fact he’s one of my least favorite Star Wars characters) but his demise in Revenge of the Sith was just brutal. You would imagine he would have had a much larger role the second time around only to have him killed off in the first ten-fifteen minutes. And in such a terrible fashion too. Oh well.

3. Darth Maul

Darth Maul was such a great character and yet George Lucas wrote him out of the story way too soon in my opinion. He was a marvelous Sith who could’ve been utilized so much more if he had been allowed to live and return in Attack of the Clones but he came to yet another horrendous Star Wars villain ending as Obi-Wan sliced him in half. Even after seeing that scene hundreds of times I still find it a tad bit disturbing watching both halves of his body tumbling down that chute. That’s a terrible way to lose a duel.

4. Snoke

Snoke's Throne Room

And Snoke definitely, to me, has the worst fate of these these three villains simply because while he also shared the same fate as Darth Maul we only had to see Maul’s halved form shortly. In Snoke’s case we got to see all of the gruesome details of his cut-in-half body and that is positively horrifying. Especially when Hux goes to see what has happened in the throne room and Snoke’s lower body tumbles out of the chair. *shudder* That is 100% terrible.

All of these villains had something in common, getting chopped up, and that is kind of disturbingly hilarious. The question is, who will be the next villain to join their ranks? And don’t let me get started with the Skywalkers. They’re known for being part of the chop factory. Let’s hope Kylo Ren, who is the last of the Skywalkers, can keep the limb-losing curse away.

I thank you for reading this observant post and I hope you have a magical day. May the Force be with you.
