Groot is awesome in his own “I am Groot” way. I remember when I first saw him I was like, “Who’s this talking tree thingy?” He was definitely unique and a little odd but it didn’t take long for me to really latch onto his Chewbacca-esque character. He was so sweet, kind, and sometimes disturbingly violent but overall he was a great addition to the band of misfits, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and I’m excited to share with you his evolution in his previous two films. Enjoy!
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Groot is just a really nice character. I mean he’s undoubtedly the nicest member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. His involvement in the movie wasn’t complex in the slightest. He just followed everyone around like a lumbering tree who, on occasion, gave his opinion in certain situations. So it’s kind of sad to think that he came to a tragic ending as he died sacrificing himself for his friends near the end of the movie. Yes, if you didn’t know, he died! James Gunn just recently told everyone in a tweet that Groot actually did die when Ronin’s ship crashed and I was instantly heartbroken. For years I had thought that Baby Groot was just Groot reborn but no, that was his son. The original Groot ended up perishing in that crash and that has made that heartwarming scene when he tells Rocket, “We are Groot” all the more touching and heartbreaking at once.
“I am Groot.” (RIP Groot.)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
And then there’s Baby Groot. Oh my goodness, Baby Groot is so cute and he could’ve been even cuter if the movie had been written better. Did he really have any development in this Guardians sequel? Not really. He was just cute throughout the entire movie…and sometimes a little feisty, but there wasn’t a lot of character development for the character. I mean come on, he’s a baby. Of course he’s not going to be written with as much care and attention as say, the adults! But he was one of the few positives to the movie and that’s good because the film needed that.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
And now when Groot returns he’ll be a grumpy teenage Groot, which I’m sure will bring a lot of comedy to the film, and I’m excited to see this new version of Groot that we haven’t exactly discovered about.
I am super excited to see this movie and I can’t wait to see Groot return. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
