Rumors for ‘Episode IX’ Have Arrived and They Are Very…Interesting

Now that The Last Jedi is firmly in my rearview mirror my attention should, of course, reside solely on the upcoming young Solo movie but my heart can’t stop thinking about Episode IX and it looks like I’m not the only one because rumors for the movie’s various plotlines have begun to surface and I’m here to share with you all of the juicy details. And just to let you know, these rumors are reportedly from Colin Trevorrow’s script (the director who was fired) so it isn’t clear if any of his ideas will actually make it into the final product. It’s still interesting to read though. 🙂

Reader Discretion Advised! These rumors may prove to be major spoilers in Episode IX and so if you’d rather stay in the blue I advise to discontinue reading this NOW. I thank you for heeding my warning and I hope you enjoy!

Five Years Have Passed

Apparently, Episode IX will follow ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ by jumping ahead by a fairly significant period of time (five years in this case). Kylo Ren’s rule over The First Order is now viewed as being “benevolent” by the majority of the Galaxy and not only is the Resistance no longer being rooted for by regular folk but there are even those within it wondering why they’re still fighting.

Now this sounds super exciting and different than what we’ve seen in the past. The Empire was always looked at as a terrible blight on the galaxy and Snoke’s First Order was viewed the same way but to think that Kylo Ren has turned the tyrannical organization into a government that is loved by many through the galaxy sounds awesome!

What the Resistance Is Up To

Poe.jpg

It goes without saying that Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Leia are all standing firm against the idea that the Galaxy should be ruled over by The First Order and they’re contacted by a mole within the villainous organisation promising that they have some information which will expose Kylo Ren and those loyal to him for what they are and help the Resistance finally bring them to an end once and for all.

Now, before we go any further, there’s obviously a major discrepancy both here and in some of the other details revealed throughout this post because Leia is mentioned on multiple occasions despite the fact that Carrie Fisher is dead and her character will not be able to appear as a result. With that in mind, it’s possible this outline is from when Colin Trevorrow was still going to direct the movie.

It’s obvious that Leia won’t be in the film so she will undoubtedly be written out of this conflict in some sort of way but the idea that someone from within the First Order is trying to expose Kylo Ren sounds very interesting to me.

The First Order

Here’s where things start to get weird. This tip leads our heroes to a planet in the unknown regions where they have to infiltrate a First Order command station to extract a young female alien who will help them navigate this part of the Galaxy. They succeed and head to a planet made up solely of water.

It’s there that they learn the secret behind The First Order’s unlimited resources; this planet holds an old underwater manufacturing station (bear in mind that early  concept art for ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi’ showed the Millennium travelling through water) which is being manned by the populations of worlds that The First Order has secretly conquered across the unknown regions.

These people are slaves and the heroes need to free them before they’re exterminated so they can expose The First Order to the Galaxy and hopefully bring an end to the Empire once and for all.

Okay, this section of the rumors sounds kind of lame, if you ask me. It could be really incredible under J.J Abram’s vision or it could be the Canto Bight of Episode IX. On one hand the thought of an underwater First Order facility sounds amazing but the thought of the Resistance having to free a bunch of slaves sounds a lot like the prequels to me and that isn’t great news.

The War Begins

The Outer Rim and unknown regions have always been something of a mystery to us so it would definitely be interesting seeing ‘Episode IX’ shed some light on that. The plot leak notes that the story wraps up with those on the fringes of the Galaxy finally deciding to step up and help the Resistance by going to war with The First Order and any planets that choose to still support Kylo Ren.

The way this sounds makes it seem like the story of this trilogy is going to continue onward past three movies which sounds awesome but definitely isn’t traditional. Maybe that’s why Colin Trevorrow was fired.

The Traitor

Talking of Kylo Ren, what exactly is Ben Solo up to here? Well, he’s been spending the vast majority of his time hunting down any other Force users alongside the Knight of Ren in order to ensure that Luke Skywalker’s sacrifice doesn’t inspire a new generation of Jedi. He’s also attempting to discover who the mole is and we later learn that it’s General Hux. Has he decided to become a good guy?

Nope, he’s simply hoping that Ren’s version of The First Order will result in him being able to step up and take charge of whatever remains. His fate isn’t revealed in this outline but it can’t be good!

Now this sounds great because it’s vaguely similar to what I figure Kylo Ren would be up to anyway in Episode IX. (Remember What’s Next for Kylo Ren?) And it’s also perfect because I knew Hux would be a thorn in Kylo’s side and if these rumors are in anyway legit Hux will definitely be a menace.

There’s a New Jedi Order

Bear in mind that five years are supposed to have passed since the events of The Last Jedi, so Rey is now far more knowledgeable in the ways of the Force and many of those in tune with it – both young and old – have ended up seeking her out for protection from the Knights of Ren. Despite that, she and Kylo still communicate via the Force and “can even manifest their whole presence in front of each other.” I’m not sure if that means they’re physically there but I don’t think that’s the case.

Either way, it’s said that these two “secretly love each other,” something which some fans will no doubt be happy with while others will hate. Then again, it seems it sets the stage for a pretty big twist…

Ooookay, this bit of the Episode IX rumors sound very interesting indeed. One: I’m super excited to hear about the possibility of Rey creating a new Jedi Order. Two: The idea that Kylo and Rey can still speak to each other through their Force connection sounds super awesome. And three: To think that the two of them, after five years, are secretly in love takes their relationship to the next level. *jaw drop* That’s just wild to think about. It also adds a more meaningful depth to their companionship throughout Episode VII and VIII if it is true. Their love story would basically resemble Anakin and Padme’s love story, except at another tier of drama. *rubbing my hands* I’m kind of hoping this rumor is true. 🙂

The Plot Twist

reyandkylorenlove.jpg

While Rey and Kylo have somehow fallen in love, it seems the former has been busy elsewhere because she confesses to the former Ben Solo that one of her students is, in fact, her son. Is Kylo the father? Is Finn? Poe? Someone totally random? Or wait, has the baby been created by the Force?

That’s not revealed here but Kylo is said to be so furious by this revelation that he very nearly kills Rey and is stopped by the last-minute by Leia (who, again, isn’t expected to appear here in any way).

It’s a weird twist and one which could be even more controversial than many of the decisions made by Rian Johnson in The Last Jedi.

Honestly, I don’t know if I like the idea of Rey having a mystery child and Kylo Ren going off on her and nearly killing her. It sounds like it could go either one or two ways; either it’ll be one of the most emotional and shocking revelations in Star Wars history or it’ll be yet another controversial decision that’ll turn diehard Star Wars fans away like The Last Jedi managed to make happen.

I also don’t like the sound of this twist because it makes Rey sound weak. Up to this point she has always either been stronger or as equally powerful as Kylo Ren and to think that he finally defeats her after finding out she had a mystery kid just doesn’t fit the overall arc of her character. Maybe it was ideas like this that got Colin Trevorrow fired.

Of course, J.J Abrams may have adapted some of these ideas and we’ll get to see these rumors come into fruition in variously awesome ways but until actual footage of the movie starts coming out these rumors are all but speculation.

All in all, these rumors definitely sound interesting. I don’t know if I fully endorse the idea of there being a five year time gap between The Last Jedi and Episode IX simply because that’s a lot of character development that will be missed by the time we see our heroes, and villains, again. Five years was the amount of time that comprised the whole original Star Wars trilogy and the past five years’ worth of movies in the MCU stretches from Iron Man 3 to the current Avengers: Infinity War. Do we really want to skip that far ahead in these character’s lives? I don’t know. I’ll have to wait and see.

Now the rumors I definitely did enjoy and got me truly excited for the possibilities of Episode IX was the concept of a “benevolent” First Order, Kylo and his Knights of Ren hunting Force wielders, and Rey having a new Jedi Order made up of those fleeing Force inhabited individuals. Everything else, I’m just waiting to see if it’ll come true or not.

I hope you enjoyed reading these rumors as much as I did and I hope you have a beautiful day. May the Force be with you.

  1. Scavenger’s Hoard wisely referred to the plot twist of a secret love child as being reminiscent of Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera (which does not exist to me). As Scavenger’s Hoard says, it would have to be exceptionally well executed to actually work. And I have no respect for J.J. Abrams as a director so I don’t think he could execute it exceptionally well.

I am not crazy about the plot twist AT ALL, but given the choice between that and seeing a mindless, meaningless series of light saber battles between good Rey and evil Kylo Ren, I might prefer it. I enjoyed The Last Jedi the most when it took risks, even when the risks failed.

Even so, I am pretty confident that the plot twist will not happen. I hope.

I also love the idea of Kylo as the benevolent ruler and people in the Resistance wondering what the point of the rebellion is anymore. I REALLY hope we see dissent in the ranks and people arguing about what kind of future they want for the Star Wars universe. I also hope we see Hux emerge from the shadows and attempt a coup.

    1. I think J.J Abrams did a great job with ‘The Force Awakens’ but I agree. He doesn’t have as great of an imagination as say Rian Johnson had for ‘The Last Jedi’. (He basically redid the entire plot for ‘A New Hope’.)
In terms of these rumors I do feel that the mystery child idea isn’t a good one (unless executed properly) and the benevolent First Order sounds really cool. I can’t wait to see if these rumors will end up being true or not. 🙂
