The Ten Greatest Action Scenes in ‘Star Wars’

Star Wars is incredible for so many reasons and one of those reasons is the fantastic action. From The Phantom Menace to the latest installment, The Last Jedi, action helps make these films go from wonderful to out-of-this-world enjoyable and so today I’m going to share with you my ten favorite action scenes. Enjoy!

10. The Buunta Eve Podrace

The prequels weren’t the best Star Wars movies but one thing they did excel at were the action scenes and the Buunta Eve Podrace Competition is one of my favorites. In no other Star Wars film has there been anything like this dangerous NASCAR-ish type of action scene and that’s why I love it so much. It’s so unique and so much fun to watch that I couldn’t help but place this in my list.

9. The Jedi vs. Darth Maul

Between the likes of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jin, padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Sith apprentice Darth Maul this film had quite the epic, climactic duel vibe and it truly is a treat to observe. John Williams’s epic score impeccably matches the duel and the setting is one of the coolest environments for a lightsaber duel in Star Wars. Definitely one of my favorites.

8. The Resistance Saves The Day

One of the greatest scenes in The Force Awakens is when the Resistance arrives on Takodana. Not only is it such a triumphant moment for the heroes but it really lets Poe shine in all of the best ways. This action scene makes me so happy every time I watch it that I couldn’t help but put in this list.

7. The Holy City Is Destroyed

One of my favorite scenes in Rogue One is when the Death Star destroys the Holy City on Jedha. Not only is it a frighteningly beautiful scene but the music and the tenseness of the situation is just perfect. I love this part. 🙂

6. Obi-Wan Fights Jango Fett

Attack of the Clones might be my least favorite Star Wars movie but oh my goodness it has some really fun action scenes and this is one of them. This film truly made Obi-Wan shine in all of the best ways as we got to see him basically be a Jedi detective which is so cool. Jango Fett was a very cool character as well and this confrontation between the skilled bounty hunter and the Jedi Knight was simply awesome. One time I watched this film and skipped all of the Anakin/Padme scenes and that made this movie so much fun to watch because it was basically an Obi-Wan mystery film. And that’s why I’m super excited for the Obi-Wan standalone movie. I already have a very good feeling about it. 🙂

5. The Millennium Falcon Escapes Jakku

Oh. My. Goodness! I love the Millennium Falcon and this scene helped boost my love for the iconic ship even more. Since the first time I ever watched this incredible scene it has brought a smile to my face because of its brilliance. We get some great aerial action and some fun character interplay between Rey and Finn. The music is upbeat and perfectly matches the dips and swoops of the Falcon as it races across the sands of Jakku and weaves through the Imperial Graveyard. And it’s just plain fun to watch.

Hopefully Solo will provide some truly fantastic Millennium Falcon action scenes because that will make the movie REALLY fun to watch.

4. Obi-Wan In The Asteroid Field

One of my favorite Star Wars scenes of all time is this action scene right here. Like I said before, Attack of the Clones may be my least favorite installment in the franchise but it’s packed to the rim with fun action scenes, from the speeder chase through Coruscant to the debacle in the droid factory. Ever since I was a little girl this scene has made me SO happy and even if I watched it right at this very moment it would still bring a smile to my face.

3. A Duel in the Forest

Rey and Kylo Ren are some of the coolest characters ever to be brought to the Star Wars universe and so it’s no surprise that their lightsaber duel would end up becoming one of my favorite action scenes. The Force Awakens was a fun film through and through and the last twenty minutes of the movie is just impeccable. The movie was already amazing up ’till this point and then you get this awesome duel?! It’s the icing on the action cake. And now I’m still patiently waiting to see Rey and Kylo Ren’s next lightsaber duel because I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait. 🙂

2. Climbing the Data Tower

Rogue One is jam packed with tantalizing action scenes and the Scarif sequence truly resembles something out of a war movie but the sequence really starts to get epic when it reaches the data tower part. On one side you’ve got the Death Troopers destroying the bit of Rebellion soldiers outside by the console that’ll allow the rebels to be able to communicate with the rebel fleet. And then on the other hand you’ve got Jyn and Cassian trying to obtain the data plans but they are soon discovered by Krennic and his couple of Deathtroopers which leads to an epic shootout on the data tower. And then, along with all of that, the musical score at that part is so incredible it gives me chills every time. I love this part so much.

1. The Praetorian Guard Battle

It’s kind of obvious that this was going to be my favorite action scene because, well, it’s AWESOME!!!!! Kylo Ren and Rey fighting together against eight incredibly skilled, incredible looking warriors is literally one of the coolest things that’s ever happened in Star Wars. A dream of mine has always been to see the Royal Imperial Guards in an epic action scene and I definitely got that wish in the most awesome, impeccable fashion. It’s one of the shorter lightsaber duels but the choreography is so perfectly done and mapped out that this duel feels more complete than some of the other, longer duels. All in all, I LOVE this scene! 🙂

Well, these are my ten favorite action scenes in Star Wars. This was a really hard decision for me comprising these ten scenes together because there are so many fantastic action sequences throughout the nine films in the franchise but I just felt that these were the ones that have made the happiest. Hopefully Solo will have some action scenes worthy of entering this list.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a remarkable day. May the Force be with you.

    1. Oh my goodness, I was asking myself the very same question. I absolutely love the original trilogy but when it comes to their action scenes well…these scenes are just better. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. 🙂
