Chewbacca, Everyone’s Favorite Wookie

Chewbacca has been a beloved character since he debuted in A New Hope and now over four decades later Star Wars fans’ love for the fabulous Wookie hasn’t diminished in the slightest. If anything, our adoration of the character has increased as more and more movies have arrived showcasing his awesomeness. In fact, The Last Jedi helped reveal to us that maybe it wasn’t just Han Solo who was the only great pilot residing in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon as we got to see his piloting skills taken to the test in the underground caverns of Crait and he passed with flying colors. He took that ship and flew through that cavern in such a fantastic way that I’m kind of convinced he may be the better pilot between the two buddies. Of course, Solo will give the charming scoundrel plenty of times to prove that he really is worthy of the title, “Greatest Pilot in the Galaxy.” But Chewbacca is undoubtedly another one of the greatest pilots in the galaxy and with this new Star Wars movie his awesomeness will be explored even more and I couldn’t be more excited.

Chewbacca has always been a prominent character but he’s also always been low on the list of importance compared to the other characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, and now Rey. He’s also always been viewed as a sidekick and I’m glad that we’re finally going to see Chewie in a different light in Solo. This is the stage in his life where he befriends Han and to think that he didn’t like the rascally smuggler at first sounds so exciting. I’ve never seen Chewbacca and Han Solo on less-than-friendly terms and that’s going to be one of the interactions I’m most interested in seeing in the movie.

I’m also just super excited to see Chewbacca. He is such an awesome character and to see him finally get a chance at a major role in this film is simply exhilarating to think about. He’s a major part of the reason why I’m thrilled to see this movie and I hope it’ll give us an even greater insight to his character in the films that he has already graced.

I hope this movie has gotten you just as excited about Chewbacca as me and I thank you for reading. Have a great day and May the Force be with you.

  1. Hi Annlyel, taking into account the 171 year age difference between Han and Chewie I would imagine the Wookie would have learned a few more moves as a pilot than Han! So Chewie may well be the better pilot but has always occupied the co-pilot’s chair….even before the films came out. While Lucas was writing Star Wars – A New Hope he owned an Alaskan Malamute dog called Indiana. This dog was inseperable from him and would sit next to him while writing and even when Lucas was driving his pick up truck Indiana was sat in the front passenger seat – just like Chewie! If you’d like to see the inspiration for the wonderful Wookie here’s a link to a short article you’ll enjoy:

Not long to wait for SOLO now!

      1. You’re welcome. I thought Indiana was kinda magnificent. And here is another little tidbit. If you watch Sean Connery and Harrison Ford in The Last Crusade, at the end Sallah asks why Dr Jones Sr. calls Indy “Henry Jones Jr”. Connery replies “That’s his name Henry Jones Jr….we called the dog INDIANA!” (Now where could that name and idea have come from eh?)

      2. Ha! Another awesome fact. That dog must’ve brought George Lucas a lot of happiness…and in turn that dog has brought a ton of happiness to millions of movie viewers around the world. That’s a special dog. 🙂
