I usually write a post displaying My Excitement for an upcoming movie but with Solo it’s kind of a different story this time around. Since I saw its first trailer I figured that Solo had the potential of being great or being kind of okay and after the bucketload of marketing my opinion about the movie hasn’t changed. With The Last Jedi and Avengers: Infinity War I was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement the Wednesday of the film’s release but with Solo that just isn’t the case. I watched the Live Red Carpet premiere two weeks ago. I liked it, didn’t love it. I’ve heard some of the spoiler-free reviews and most of them are saying everything that I figured. The movie is entertaining but it’s not the greatest story ever told, Donald Glover plays Lando so well he needs his own movie pronto, it’s a cinematographically pleasing film, and Alden Ehrenreich slightly disappoints as the iconic Han Solo. Now I’m not saying I’m letting these subpar reviews sway my excitement for the movie but they’re just confirming everything I’ve already assumed from the trailers, tv spots, and various clips from the film.
I trust my gut whenever I see trailers for a certain movie and my gut told me that Solo was undoubtedly going to be enjoyable but that Alden Ehrenreich’s Han was going to be the blight of the film. And the more tv spots I see the more apparent this fact seems.
I wish I could tell you that I absolutely couldn’t wait to see this movie but, if I’m being honest, it’s just not filling me with that rabid anticipation movies like Infinity War have given me. In fact, I’m slightly more excited to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Ocean’s 8 which is downright shocking to me. I’m just hoping that my predictions for this movie become false and it totally knocks me off of my feet with its brilliance.
Do you feel the same lack of enthusiasm for Solo as me? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the movie in the comments below and I thank you for reading. I hope you have a great day and May the Force be with you.
