The Ten Coolest Things From ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’

One of my favorite things about watching a new Star Wars movie is seeing all of the new aliens, locations, trinkets, etc. and Solo was packed to the rim with eye catching characters, brand new aliens, and yes, more stormtroopers. I love it! So today I’m going to share with you all of the incredible new creations that Solo brought to the Star Wars universe that I happened to love the most. Enjoy!

10: Corellian Hounds

Corellian hounds

Um…it’s official. Star Wars dogs are not cute. *shudder* These hounds were simply horrifying to look at…but they were so cool at the same time. Only in Star Wars would you see an alien hound as gross and magnificent as this and that’s why I love this franchise so much.

9. Mudtroopers

mudtroopers

With every new Star Wars movie comes a new rendition of the iconic stormtrooper and I am just impressed. How do they keep coming up with ideas for brand new troopers? I have no idea. But, Solo continued that tradition and I’m so happy about it. These Mudtroopers look so cool with their massive goggles and their mucky brown armor perfect for the conditions of the muddy planet, Mimban. Um…did I mention that I love Star Wars? 🙂

8. The Lodge

The Lodge

New Star Wars movies also mean new locations and once again Solo did not disappoint as it took us to worlds unlike anything we had seen before. The Lodge, a hangout in the location of Fort Ypso, is where Han first meets Lando and from the looks of this picture you wouldn’t even recognize it from the actual movie. In the film aliens and humanoids crowded the interior of The Lodge to the point of not allowing the viewer to really see everything sitting on the walls and so forth, at least not on the first viewing. In this picture, however, you can see the homey charm of this tavern and I’m glad to see that Star Wars still continues to surprise me with new places that haven’t ever been seen in the franchise before.

7. Corellia

Corellia

I have to admit, I’m kind of surprised at how unappealing Corellia ended up being. For years when I heard of the planet, Corellia, I imagined it being this lush, tropical planet with white sand beaches and beautiful establishments. The actual Corellia is the exact opposite…and that’s awesome! You don’t want to watch a movie and everything that you imagined comes true because then there’s no fun in that. But even though Corellia wasn’t the galactic paradise that I had envisioned I loved the industrial feeling of the planet. It was unlike any other planet I’ve seen in Star Wars before and I would love to see the planet appear at least once more in future movies or cartoons.

6. Range Troopers

Ever since I saw these troopers on the trailers and commercials for Solo I was excited to see them and I’m glad to say they definitely did not disappoint. Now they definitely still suffered from classic stormtrooper syndrome (not being able to hit their target) but that’s fine. If there is ever a Range Trooper Funko Pop I’m totally getting it. 🙂

5. Gription Boots

But what made the Range Troopers so incredible were their boots. They’re specifically designed with heavy magnets that allows them to walk on the train without having the fear of falling off. How cool is that? Wow, Solo was SO good!

4. Kessel

Kessel

Well, the mystery surrounding Kessel and the infamous Kessel Run has been resolved thanks to this latest Star Wars flick and I couldn’t have been more excited to see this strange spice mining planet. Not only were the Pike aliens there ridiculously cool looking but the overall Kessel action sequence was just a blast to watch. Look at that green water. I can’t wait to see how Lucasfilm created this place in the behind-the-scenes featurettes for Solo.

3. The White Worms

Moloch

I’ve seen a lot of strange Star Wars aliens in my time (remember the alien with the protruding egg sacs in Canto Bight?) but these Worm creatures were just fascinating. They were basically skinny, tall Hutts. How awesome does that sound? But what was even cooler was the fact that they couldn’t be exposed to the sun so they had to wear this thick armor to protect themselves underneath the sun’s gaze. Seeing aliens this cool at the beginning of Solo already solidified how good the movie was going to be and I’m glad that the actual film did not disappoint that theory.

2. The Cloud-Riders

Cloud-Riders

Enfys Nest was already an awesome character and her marauders were not an exception. I loved how each member of the Cloud-Riders had their own personal flair and style but together the range of colors in their outfits all matched into one single gang. I mean look at this picture? Don’t they look positively awesome?! These Star Wars standalone films continue to be so imaginative with not only the locations and aliens but the people too and that’s why these movies are so good. When you have characters as cool as the Cloud-Riders the quality of the film is going to rise a great deal, and it did too. Woo, this movie was awesome.

1. First Light

First Light

I’ve seen a lot of impressive Star Wars vessels in my time. There was Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer, the Executor, Count Dooku’s getaway ship, the Solar Sailer, Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle and Tie Silencer, and then after the jaw-dropping Supremacy was revealed in The Last Jedi I figured Star Wars had officially made the coolest ship of all time. And then I watched Solo.

I had unknowingly seen Dryden Vos’s fancy yacht (yes, I said yacht) in commercials and trailers for the movie but I hadn’t known what it was. Once I figured out this giant, vertical tower of a vessel was indeed, like I said before, a yacht my mind was practically blown.

And then to see the interior of the yacht in complete motion was simply magical. The music provided by the two player band was so amazing felt like dancing, the characters standing around were dressed so fabulously that I couldn’t help but gaze at the screen in wide-eyed delight, and the golden glow provided by the windows was 100% spectacular. Canto Bight isn’t anywhere as cool as this yacht or its inhabitants (sorry Canto Bight.)

Last year my favorite new thing from The Last Jedi were the Praetorian Guards because, well, they’re awesome. I would never have thought a ship would become one of the coolest things I’ve seen in Star Wars but that’s why this franchise is so great. It’s filled with remarkable surprises just waiting to be seen.

I can’t wait to see what new things in Solo that’ll catch my eye the next time I watch the film, whenever that’ll be, and I’m excited to see what new aliens, ships, and troopers might make an appearance in Episode IX.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day. May the force be with you.
