I’ve Discovered A Secret Force Connection in ‘The Last Jedi’

Last night I watched The Last Jedi for the umpteenth time and as I was watching the scene where the First Order ambushes the unsuspecting Resistance I realized a fascinating discovery. Rian Johnson introduced us to new possibilities with the Force by creating Force connections, revealing the fact that Force ghosts can still do things in the tangible world like summon lightning, and Luke was able to project an image of himself across a galaxy. The Force connections were obviously one of the coolest ideas brought to the Star Wars universe as it opened ideas of how Force-wielders can interact with each other but while it seems like the only connections that transpired were between Kylo Ren and Rey it turns out that isn’t true. Here’s the scene between Leia and Kylo Ren during the ambush.

As both Kylo Ren and Leia sense each other the camera keeps going back and forth between their faces much in the same way that the camera flips between Rey and Kylo. Leia and Kylo, in those moments stare at each other as if they’re really standing face to face. He quivers with emotion as he tries to push the trigger and she looks at him, questioning him with her stare if he has the guts to kill her.

reyseeskylo.jpgThe reason why this scene is so important is because it forces the idea that maybe Snoke wasn’t the one to connect Kylo and Rey’s minds together and that he was totally fibbing. Rian Johnson subtly pushes that fact with these two very important moments in the movie; Leia and Kylo’s moment during the ambush and Rey and Kylo’s last connection. If Snoke was really the one who supposedly was the connector of these two Force-wielding characters then why could Kylo see his mother before Snoke “bound” his mind to Rey’s still see Rey after Snoke was dead?

If this is true then that means there could be more Force connections in the future, considering that Snoke didn’t even connect Rey and Kylo in the first place. It also adds more depth to that scene between Leia and Kylo because knowing that they were basically looking at each other is kind of sad, chilling, and brilliant all at once.

Rian Johnson brought a complexity to Star Wars that hadn’t been seen before and that’s why I’m still discovering deeper elements to the movie which helps enhance the story in very awesome ways. I love finding new things in Star Wars. 🙂

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day. May the Force be with you.
