Star Wars is heavily wrapped around the basis of family and it’s Father’s Day! Last month I wrote a post celebrating the mothers of Star Wars and on this weekly series of Who’s Your Favorite I’m asking you, my fellow Star Wars fans, who’s your favorite Star Wars father? Here is my list of the galactic dads of the franchise.
Galen Erso is one of the secret heroes in the Star Wars universe as he purposely sabotaged the Death Star to eventually get blown up. He risked his life creating the diabolical plan and had to sacrifice so much to get it done. While he isn’t on the poster of Rogue One he was easily one of the film’s biggest contributors.
Darth Vader just might be one of the most iconic movie fathers of all time. He may have played the part of the villain for the majority of the original trilogy but through all of those wires and that cold exterior was a heart of gold that couldn’t be denied. He helped end the reign of the Empire as he killed Palpatine and even though he died he perished doing what was right and that is why he’s such a great character.
Even though Senator Organa played a menial role in the prequel trilogy his part in the films was very important indeed, for he would end up becoming one of the early founders of the Rebellion and the father of Princess Leia. While we never got to see the fatherly side of him in the movies his relationship with his daughter has been elaborated upon through the books and while I still haven’t Leia yet I’m sure their bond is very special.
Own Lars was a gruff man who tried to protect Luke from the outside world but even though he diverted his nephew’s attention from conversations about the Force or Luke’s father he did manage to raise him, instilling in him the values that would one day make Luke Skywalker a galactic hero.
When I used to think of Han Solo it was hard to imagine him as a father but now that he has been portrayed as one it’s kind of cool. We got to see that fatherly side of him as his relationship grew with Rey and in his final moments with his son, Ben Solo. We also got to see the long-time husband side of him too as he interacted with Leia for a short time in The Force Awakens. It’s kind of a shame that he wasn’t around longer in this current trilogy but his role in The Force Awakens helped spur forward a fascinating story that I hope is impeccably resolved in Episode IX.
These are all of the fathers in Star Wars and while not all of them have as huge roles as say Darth Vader and Mr. Solo (lol) they have each left their stamp on the Star Wars universe and their mark in their children, just like fathers do in the world every day.
My favorite Star Wars father is Han Solo for obvious reasons but mainly because he’s hilarious. He’s always saying something that’s funny and one of my favorite things about The Force Awakens was the Han, Chewbacca, Finn dynamic. That was a comical trio that I wished could’ve lasted a little longer because they were very hilarious indeed.
So, who’s your favorite Star Wars dad? I’d love to know. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.
