Ranking the Action in ‘Star Wars’ Movies; from Worst to Best

One of the funnest things about watching a Star Wars movie is the action. No matter how lackluster a Star Wars film may be the action is always entertaining. With ten movies now in the franchise which films reign supreme in the action department and which movies don’t? That’s what I’m here to share with you. Enjoy!

10. A New Hope

I love A New Hope because it’s the first Star Wars movie ever made. If it wasn’t for A New Hope being such an amazing film when it came over forty years ago the Star Wars franchise probably wouldn’t exist right now. But while A New Hope is undoubtedly a great movie the action is about as boring as it gets in comparison to the other nine Star Wars films. I mean, it has the slowest lightsaber duel ever created. I rest my case.

There’s Going To Be An ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Sequel!

Four years ago Edge of Tomorrow premiered in theaters around the world. The trailers and commercials didn’t excite me and I almost didn’t want to see the film. But my family and I decided to take a chance on it and so we went to see it over Maleficent which had also just recently come out. It was one of the greatest movie surprises I’ve ever had.

Edge of Tomorrow is a classic alien invasion story with a Groundhog Day twist as one man (played by none other than Tom Cruise) is forced to relive a traumatic day that leads to a horrendous battle over and over and over again. He acquires the help of an acclaimed warrior, Rita Vrataski, and together they are dealt with the task of defeating the aliens before they take over the world.

It’s an action-packed science fiction film unlike any other alien invasion movie I’ve ever seen and clearly one of my Tom Cruise favorites. If you liked War of the Worlds this film will utterly blow your mind.

It did so well in fact that now a sequel, which will be helmed by the same director, Doug Liman, is in the works. But here’s the catch. The sequel is actually going to be a prequel that once again features Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt kicking some more alien booty. Um…awesome!

How it’s going to work, I have no idea, but Doug Liman has said that he intends this movie to change the way we view sequels. That sounds pretty cool and I can’t wait to see it. 🙂

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

I’ve Seen Half of ‘The Hunger Games’ Series and I’ve Got Mixed Feelings

When The Hunger Games train arrived a few years ago I happened to miss it. I didn’t see a single film or read one of the books but today I finally got a chance to see The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I was excited. I knew the movies and books had become somewhat a cultural phenomenon and I wanted to finally know what the hype was all about.

I turned The Hunger Games on, kind of expecting it to be a disappointing movie experience and immediately I was riveted. There was something about the movie that drew me in and got me invested in these characters that I didn’t know but immediately wanted to know.

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) was the type of heroine that I love to read in YA novels. She was fierce, unafraid to speak her mind, and unsurprisingly tough and efficient. I immediately liked her.

Peeta was a great character that I grew to like over the course of the movie. He was sweet and kind and I actually started to care about him.

By the time The Hunger Games arrived I was just as afraid as Katniss at the very thought of the brutal competition. Like I said before, the movie was riveting. It made me cry, it made me gasp, but most importantly it made me happy. I felt relieved to finally see The Hunger Games and to learn that it was actually good.

I’ll give the film a 92 out of a 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars because I enjoyed it that much.

Disney Is Making a Live-Action Fairy Tale Movie Featuring an African Princess

Disney, for the past several years, have made live-action movies featuring some of the greatest fairy tales and stories; Alice in WonderlandThe Jungle BookBeauty and the Beast, the list goes on. And now it’s been reported that a new live-action film is in the works featuring the story of an African princess named Sade. Um…AWESOME!

After Black Panther‘s surprising success it seems that Disney is looking to find more ways to incorporate stories of black heroes and heroines into their various franchises. I honestly couldn’t be more excited to hear this news. A director for the movie hasn’t been found yet but a script is already in the works and the film has a producer so it’s definitely happening.

This is great news to hear and I can’t wait to learn more about it as the film progresses.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a splendid day.

Where Does Wasp Rank Among the Marvel Heroines?

Wasp is the latest Marvel heroine to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s exciting, as a woman, to see so many awesome ladies take charge and kick butt in these superhero movies. I recently did a two-part post looking at the evolution of women in Marvel and it’s sad seeing how women were treated in the first phases of the MCU. Women were depicted as damsels in distress who were only utilized into the movies as tools for romance for the dashing heroes. And Black Widow was treated not as an accomplished assassin but rather as eye candy who just so happened to be able to kick butt at the same time.

Marvel has evolved since then and now it isn’t even a surprise to see awesome superhero women in these movies anymore. And with Wasp, who is the first Marvel heroine to have her name in the title of a movie, the portrayal of women in the MCU has only gotten better. But how does she stack up to the other awesome heroines that have come before her? That’s what I’m here to share with you. Enjoy!

Who’s Your Favorite ‘Star Wars’ Character of the Current Trilogy?

Another glorious week has passed and it has definitely been an exciting week for Star Wars fans. The Clone Wars cartoon was announced to be getting a final season which will debut on Disney’s new streaming service and the official cast announcement for Episode IX was released on Friday. So, in the spirit of Star Wars, this week’s segment is focused on, well, Star Wars characters of the current trilogy. Who’s your favorite of the new troupe? Here are the characters.

Finn

finn-main_952e10d2

Until Finn there had never been a story about a stormtrooper-turned-rebel fighter and that’s why Finn is so great. He’s a special man and on top of that he is as heroic as they come. He didn’t have to turn against the First Order but he did because he knew the First Order was wrong in what they were doing. He didn’t have to save Poe but he did (mainly because he needed a pilot’s help.) He didn’t have to save Rey from getting killed by the stormtroopers on Jakku but he did because he’s a good man.

I could keep going on and on about his heroics but you get the point. All of the heroic things he did he didn’t have to do. He could’ve remained a mindless stormtrooper who does what he’s told despite the obvious fact that he would be doing wrong or he could make a difference and defy those who wanted him to kill innocents without mercy. I’m glad he took the latter. (Finn’s great.) 🙂

What Can the Official Cast Announcement For ‘Episode IX’ Tell Us About the Movie?

A couple of days ago the official cast for Episode IX was released in anticipation for the movie beginning filming on August 1. There was, of course, the expected returning cast such as Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isacc, and Kelly Marie Tran. Then there were some surprising delights such as the official announcement that Billy Dee Williams will be joining the cast, Mark Hamill will indeed return to undoubtedly play Force Ghost Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher will reprise her role using unseen footage from The Force Awakens. There were some new faces also joining the ensemble of actors with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.

But beyond that this official cast announcement is also giving hints of what to expect in the upcoming Star Wars film, to a certain degree.

Such as the absence of Gwendoline Christie who played the awesome Captain Phasma through The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. With her name not being featured in the returning cast it’s pretty evident that yes, Phasma did perish in the The Last Jedi after all.
