My Ten Favorite ‘Harry Potter’ Characters

The Harry Potter series is full of magic and wonder but at the heart of its brilliant story are the characters. We wouldn’t love the franchise as much as we do if the characters weren’t as delightful and lovable as they are. And there are a LOT of characters too. There are the teachers, the students, the villains, the main characters, Harry Potter himself, but of these many, many individuals which ten characters have become my favorite over the years? That’s what I’m here to share with you. Enjoy!

10. Hagrid

Ever since I first saw Hagrid I knew I liked him. He literally fits the definition of a gentle giant. I always loved Hagrid because he never treated Harry or his friends with any disdain or unkindness whatsoever and I love to see the new beasts and creatures he’s always taking care of. The hippogryph is definitely my favorite creature of his. 🙂

All in all, I love Hagrid.

9. Voldemort

Voldemort is scary for all of the above reasons but that’s the reason why he’s one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter series. The key to a movie having a great antagonist is that the villain needs to be intimidating. We, as movie viewers, need to believe that the heroes can lose and Voldemort definitely is that villain. He’s scary, he’s evil, and he nearly killed Harry a numerous amount of times. Voldemort is one of the most memorable villains of any movie franchise and that’s why he’s on this list.

8. Professor McGonnagal

Professor McGonnagal has always been one of my favorite Hogwarts teachers because while she was quick to be stern she always still looked out for Harry whenever he was in trouble or needed help. And seeing her take control of Hogwarts in the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was 100% awesome!

7. Ron Weasley

Ron Weasley may be one of the biggest scaredy cats in the Harry Potter series but he is just as brave and heroic as Harry and Hermione which makes him such a great character. He’s also hilarious too. He’s always getting into some sort of trouble, whether its self-inflicted because of a busted up wand or just by accident Ron provides plenty of laughs throughout the series.

6. Professor Lupin

Professor Lupin was a great teacher. In fact, he was my favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher that came to Hogwarts through those years but, unfortunately, he was a werewolf, which made him that much more unique. I was really sad to see him die in the Deathly Hallows Part 2 but, oh well.

5. Cedric

Poor, poor Cedric. He’s one of my favorite characters because he was just such a lovable guy. He wasn’t even in the Goblet of Fire that much but whenever he was in the movie he made every scene that much better with his friendly charm. And he always treated Harry with a genuine kindness that made me like him even more. The way he died was brutal and clearly one of the saddest moments in the entire series.

4. Hermione Granger

Hermione has always been one of my favorite characters because she was so smart. Whenever Ron or Harry got into a sticky situation she constantly knew the spell to get them out of their occasional pickle and it made her that much more special. She’s also never been afraid to show her feelings toward someone either. One of my favorite Hermione moments is when she punches Malfoy in the nose in the Prisoner of Azkaban. That part is so great it still makes me smile to this day. 🙂

3. Sirius Black

One of the reasons why the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite Harry Potter movie is because there are so many twists and turns. Sirius is thought to be the main villain of the movie for quite the majority of the film as he lurks about Hogwarts causing a great deal of panic and fear through the students. But in truth he was actually a hero who was simply trying to kill Peter Peddigrew, the traitor who betrayed Harry’s parents to Voldemort all those years ago. His involvement in the series was short-lived after the Prisoner of Azkaban but while he lasted he was a great godfather to Harry Potter.

2. Professor Snape

Snape is undoubtedly the most intimidating teacher I have ever seen in a movie but to find out that he was actually the good guy of the entire franchise is still blowing me away. Snape has always been one of my favorite Harry Potter characters even when I thought he was a bad guy but now that I’ve gotten the chance to know more about him I love him even more now.

1. Harry Potter

Is this even a surprise? I mean, what would these movies be without Harry Potter? He’s one of the greatest heroes ever created! He has faced so much hardship and prevailed over so many outrageously difficult obstacles that I can’t help but be inspired every time I see him do something else that’s absolutely incredible. And through most of his time facing Voldemort and other menacing creatures he was a child! That’s even more impressive. Harry Potter is 100% awesome and that’s why he’s my favorite character.

So, these are my ten favorite Harry Potter characters. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a magical day.
