Where Does Wasp Rank Among the Marvel Heroines?

Wasp is the latest Marvel heroine to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s exciting, as a woman, to see so many awesome ladies take charge and kick butt in these superhero movies. I recently did a two-part post looking at the evolution of women in Marvel and it’s sad seeing how women were treated in the first phases of the MCU. Women were depicted as damsels in distress who were only utilized into the movies as tools for romance for the dashing heroes. And Black Widow was treated not as an accomplished assassin but rather as eye candy who just so happened to be able to kick butt at the same time.

Marvel has evolved since then and now it isn’t even a surprise to see awesome superhero women in these movies anymore. And with Wasp, who is the first Marvel heroine to have her name in the title of a movie, the portrayal of women in the MCU has only gotten better. But how does she stack up to the other awesome heroines that have come before her? That’s what I’m here to share with you. Enjoy!

1. General Okoye

I LOVE Okoye. She’s everything I would envision in a powerful black woman and more. I love that she’s humorous and strong-willed, benevolent and fierce. I love her golden and red Wakandan garb. It’s simply beautiful. And I love her passion for Wakandan culture. She loves Wakanda more than anything in the world and she will do whatever it takes to protect it. She inspires me to be a better woman and that’s why I love her so much.

2. Black Widow

At one time Black Widow wasn’t in my top list of favorite superheroes but over the years she has continued to grow on me. Now I squeal a little inside whenever I see her. She’s so AWESOME! She’s dependent, she’s tough, and she’s a leader as well. She may not have superhuman strength like Captain America or the ability to summon lightning like Thor but does that dissuade her from standing on the front lines alongside such powerful heroes? No. She’s a fearless individual and that’s why she’s my second favorite Marvel heroine.

3. Wasp

Yes, Wasp is my third favorite hero. (Yay!) I really, really loved Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp. In fact, I liked her in the first Ant-Man film. When I found out that she was going to end up becoming Wasp I was clearly excited but after watching the movie I love her even more now. I love her action scenes. She’s such a talented fighter and the fact that she has blasters makes her all the more awesome. I also simply am a fan of Evangeline Lilly.

She was great in Lost, I loved her as the elf, Tauriel, in The Hobbit series, and now that she’s a Marvel heroine I couldn’t be happier.

So yeah, Wasp is my third favorite Marvel heroine as of right now. I can’t wait to see Captain Marvel next year because I have next to zero knowledge of Captain Marvel but the things I have learned about her sound pretty incredible. If she is as cool as she sounds it’s going to be an amazing movie experience.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day. 🙂
