The Oscars are Getting an Awesome Change

Have you got tired of watching The Oscars because at the end of the day the movies that are being nominated for Best Picture are movies you most likely haven’t seen? Well, after last year’s Oscars got some of the worst viewings in its history it seems they understand that the average moviegoer doesn’t care about the “profound” group of movies they have in the Best Picture category.

Last year’s Best Picture nominations went to some movies that looked legitimately interesting but overall the best film of 2018 was The Shape of Water. If you’re unclear what movie that is it’s literally about a deaf woman who falls in love with a fish man. It sounds harmless enough right? Wrong. I was going to rent this movie but when I found the film was just a demented and inappropriate sex fest between these two main characters I decided not to put myself through that visual torture. In short, it’s basically Beauty and the Beast for adults.

I don’t know, maybe it is good, but was it really worth the Best Picture? And yes, the Academy has responded well to the #OscarsSoWhite criticism by incorporating more people of color in the various categories but The Oscars, which used to be such a momentous occasion, has now become a snoozefest.

Well, if you were one of the people who didn’t watch The Oscars last year ’cause you simply weren’t interested you’ll be glad to hear these astounding changes.

First, The Oscars will now be pushed to an earlier date February 9 which is good because it felt a little late in the year.

Secondly, The Oscars will only be a three-hour show rather than dragging along until midnight which is a HUGE relief.

And then finally, the biggest and most exciting change is that The Oscars will now incorporate a ‘Popular Film Achievement’ category. That means movies like Black Panther and Mission: Impossible-Fallout can be recognized at The Oscars. That gives the event something to look forward to when there’s a chance that your favorite movie could actually walk away with a golden Oscars statue for acknowledgment.

I can’t wait to see which films enter this category but it can be safely said that Black Panther will definitely be one of them.

All in all, this is great news and I can’t wait to see The 2019 Oscar nominations next year. It’s going to be so much fun! 🙂

I hope this made you as excited as it made me and I thank you for reading. Have a beautiful day.
