Over the years there has been a fascinating increase of female superheroes in the MCU. There has been such a rise of awesome heroines in this franchise in fact that Tessa Thompson, who plays the role of Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, said that there should be an all-female Avengers movie. A group of actresses even went as far as to approach the top people in Marvel about the idea. So, should there be an Avengers movie that focuses on a team of only women? Um…yeah!
We’ve seen progress in how women are portrayed in superhero movies. Wonder Woman got her first solo film last year which featured not only the first female superhero to get her own movie but it had a female director at the helm as well. It ended up making just a little north of $800 million, proving that women could drive people to the movie theaters. This year Ant-Man and the Wasp was the first Marvel movie to feature a female hero in the title. And next year Marvel is going to feature their first film that focuses on a female hero’s origin story with Captain Marvel.
Why shouldn’t Marvel take things to the next level by introducing a movie featuring a group of heroes that consists of only women. One of the greatest moments in Infinity War was the awesome female team-up between Black Widow, Okoye, and Scarlet Witch. It gave a brief hint at what a female superhero group would look like and it’s pretty awesome. But who should be a part of this heroic team?

If you didn’t know (’cause I just found out yesterday evening) DC Comics is working on bringing a new Green Lantern movie to theaters in 2020 which would be its nine year rebirth after the incredible DC Comics flop version of Green Lantern seven years ago which starred Ryan Reynolds. Ryan Reynolds, however, teamed up with Marvel to play the role of Deadpool and that would turn out to be a SERIOUS upgrade. But, as the newest Green Lantern film starts getting ready for production the casting ballot is out and it seems that Tom Cruise may become the man for the job.
Armie Hammer, who you may know for his role in the Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name, is supposedly in the running to play the role of Green Lantern in this upcoming superhero revival but it’s been reported that the production company wants a big name actor to potentially play Green Lantern. And that’s where Tom Cruise comes in.
He has been approached about the rumor and he says he will gladly take on the role, on one condition which is that he doesn’t want Green Lantern to die in the movie. If they don’t kill off Green Lantern then he really may take the role! Can you imagine that? Tom Cruise taking his resumé to the next level by playing a DC Comics superhero? That sounds kind of awesome but it could also be a tad bit ridiculous at the same time.
Marvel has been geniuses behind their casting for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. Tom Holland as Spider-Man. The list goes on and on. DC Comics, however, hasn’t made the best casting decisions except to cast Henry Cavill as Superman (he truly looks like Superman) and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Tom Cruise as Green Lantern could be a really awesome decision or a really bad one at the same time.
And to validate that this may actually happen the director for the past few Mission: Impossible movies, Christopher Mcquarrie, has been in talks with the production of the Green Lantern movie. So, yeah, we may really see Tom Cruise become a superhero within the next couple of years. Wow!
How does this news sound to you? Would you like to see Tom Cruise play Green Lantern or do you think that would be a bad idea? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

After the final season of Star Wars: Rebels ended earlier this year people began to wonder what the next Star Wars cartoon would be. Well, the animated series is called Star Wars: Resistance and it will focus on a young pilot named Kazuda Xiono who works as a spy for the Resistance. This cartoon will feature Poe Dameron, voiced by the actual Oscar Isaac, Captain Phasma, voiced by Gwendoline Christie, and everyone’s favorite droid, BB-8. Here’s the trailer.
What I like about this trailer are two things. One; I love the animation. It’s different and yet it’s just as detailed and concise as The Clone Wars cartoons. And the second thing I’m liking about this trailer is that it isn’t really showing anything.
This cartoon is interesting because it’s showing the Resistance shortly before the events of The Force Awakens which is really exciting. That means we’ll see characters we know plus maybe some plot points that’ll be elaborated further on in this animated series.
The cartoon will have an hour long premiere on the Disney channel on October 7. I’m totally going to watch it and share with you my reviews of the first couple of episodes.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day. May the Force (and the Resistance) be with you. 🙂
