Over the years there has been a fascinating increase of female superheroes in the MCU. There has been such a rise of awesome heroines in this franchise in fact that Tessa Thompson, who plays the role of Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, said that there should be an all-female Avengers movie. A group of actresses even went as far as to approach the top people in Marvel about the idea. So, should there be an Avengers movie that focuses on a team of only women? Um…yeah!
We’ve seen progress in how women are portrayed in superhero movies. Wonder Woman got her first solo film last year which featured not only the first female superhero to get her own movie but it had a female director at the helm as well. It ended up making just a little north of $800 million, proving that women could drive people to the movie theaters. This year Ant-Man and the Wasp was the first Marvel movie to feature a female hero in the title. And next year Marvel is going to feature their first film that focuses on a female hero’s origin story with Captain Marvel.
Why shouldn’t Marvel take things to the next level by introducing a movie featuring a group of heroes that consists of only women. One of the greatest moments in Infinity War was the awesome female team-up between Black Widow, Okoye, and Scarlet Witch. It gave a brief hint at what a female superhero group would look like and it’s pretty awesome. But who should be a part of this heroic team?
1. Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel is clearly one of the most important Marvel characters so there’s no doubt she should definitely be in this female Avengers group.
2. Black Widow
Black Widow is basically the Tony Stark of the heroines in the MCU. She was the first female hero to appear in the MCU, making her one of the franchise’s legends. What would this heroine group be without her as one of their leaders?
Valkyrie would basically be the Thor of this group. She’s Asgardian, she’s a strong fighter, and she’s pretty darn awesome too. I love Valkyrie and she better return to fight alongside Thor in Avengers 4 or I’m going to be kind of upset at her absence.
Wasp has proven that she can handle herself in a fight. With her shrinking abilities she would be a needed asset to the team.
She-Hulk has been inducted recently into the Marvel Comics universe and she has grown to be quite popular. If you’re unfamiliar with her character Jennifer Walters a.k.a She-Hulk needed an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner. With this procedure she obtained his transformative abilities but unlike Banner she still retains her complete personality in her Hulk version. She obviously seems pretty cool and I can’t wait to see her make an appearance in the MCU (because she’s definitely going to show up sooner rather than later.)
Shuri’s young but she’s incredibly smart and innovative too. Like Tony Stark she can create machines and weapons that’ll turn her into one of most powerful people in the world and would make her a vital member of the team.
7. Ms. Marvel
Kevin Feige has already said that he intends to bring Ms. Marvel to the MCU within the next few years which is a super exciting thought. Ms. Marvel is one of Marvel Comics’ most recent characters and she has acquired quite a fanbase with her arrival. She’s the first Muslim superhero to have her own comic and her powers are to shapeshift meaning she can elongate her limbs or enlarge her fists. She’s pretty awesome.
8. Scarlet Witch
If Scarlet Witch does happen to return in Avengers 4 (and survive the final showdown with Thanos) then she should definitely be a part of this team. Her powers are extraordinary and she’ll be a fantastic member of the group.
These are the heroes that I think would make an awesome all-female Avengers roster. I didn’t place Gamora on this list because I’m not sure if she is set to return to the MCU or not and Nebula isn’t a very sociable type of hero. I would have totally added Storm to this list as well but until Kevin Feige officially announces that he’s going to bring these X-Men characters to the MCU her involvement in the franchise is just a dream.
What other heroines do you think should be in an all-female Avengers team? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
