The latest X-Men movie I watched was Logan and while it was the only superhero film to get nominated for an Oscar besides visual effects and sound editing in forever (for Best Writing Adapted Screenplay) it, to me, was a somewhat boring film that took too long bringing about Wolverine’s imminent demise. I’ve recently seen X-Men: Days of Future Past and while for the most part it’s an enjoyable film it, like most X-Men movies, was a tad bit boring.
Now another installment in the X-Men franchise is set to come out next February with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. This story is focusing on Jean Grey and while I don’t know much about her character or her comic book history I do know this much, she’s finding her dark side in this film. Here’s the first official trailer for the movie.
Okay, I might not understand the complete storyline behind these X-Men movies and I might not know the characters as well as I know the superheroes from the MCU but I do know a good trailer. This was a good trailer.
It features Jean Grey experiencing a change as a darker side within herself begins to awaken. We see her as a conflicted child who can’t control her dangerous powers and we see her as an adult attacking soldiers and downing helicopters. Whatever is happening to Jean Grey and it’s going to take her fellow X-Men to potentially save her from herself.
This trailer contains a lot of people crying (for some reason.) There are many intriguing shots displaying the number of X-Men that are going to be in this movie. Magneto is in this movie which I’m excited to see because he is hands down my favorite X-Men character (he’s really cool.) And while there isn’t much action in this trailer it’s perfectly fine because it means there’s a lot to this movie that isn’t being shown.
All in all, I don’t usually get excited about X-Men movies but this trailer is intriguing me.
And what makes it even better is this incredible looking poster. Here it is.
It’s simple, beautiful, captivating, and it teases a dark story that could change the standing of the X-Men as we now know it. Like I said before, I’m not an X-Men fan, but this trailer coupled with this poster has got my intrigue meter rising.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.
