Last night I was a bit bored so I decided to find a brand new movie to watch. I came across this film, The Three Amigos, and decided to check it out. I’m glad I did. The Three Amigos stars three Saturday Night Live legends; Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short, in a comedic western focusing on, well, the Three Amigos.
The story is set in 1916 and begins by showing a young Mexican woman and her younger brother (I assume) looking for help. A man by the name of El Guapo (played by Alfonso Arau) has her small town under his control and she’s trying to find somebody to defeat El Guapo. As she goes into a church to ask for help she notices that they are playing a movie that features The Three Amigos. She becomes inspired and sends The Three Amigos a telegram promising them one hundred thousand pesos if they defeat El Guapo.
The Three Amigos, however, are simply actors who end up getting fired because their Three Amigos sequel was a box-office failure. In sudden need of work they get the telegram promising a hundred thousand pesos if they stop El Guapo but instead of understanding what the telegram is actually asking of them they think it’s another acting gig. Can you see where this is going?
I was interested as soon as I saw Chevy Chase who is easily one of my favorite comedic actors due to his role in one of the funniest movies ever made, National Lampoon’s Vacation. Let me tell you, this movie is 100% hilarious. It’s filled with slapstick humor from beginning to end, some laugh-out-loud moments, and it will leave you in stitches at times as well.
My Conclusion of the Film
If you like silly humor then this is a definite must-watch. It’s well written, clocks in at a perfect 1 and 44 minutes, and provided me plenty of joy from the very first second to the last.
I’d give this film 89 out of a 100 and 4 out of 5 stars. If you’ve never seen it be sure to check it out sometime. It’s totally worth it.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
