What’s Your Favorite ‘Star Wars’ Love Story?

Last week on this weekly segment of Who’s Your Favorite? the topic was about Marvel’s love stories and so it only seems right that this week’s segment focuses on another incredible franchise’s love stories; Star Wars. There are a lot of enjoyable elements to Star Wars but for those who love a good romance, this franchise has that too. So, on that note, let me list these memorable love stories.

Han and Qi’ra

Han, as a young man, was madly in love with his fellow Corellian sweetheart, Qi’ra but this romance was not to last. Qi’ra moved on and became loyal to the Crimson Dawn, eventually leaving Han and ending their relationship. It was a shocking moment for Han and it would be a turning point in his young life.

Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala

If you like tragic love stories well…this is definitely one for you. The romance between Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Senator Amidala was doomed from the start. They were not supposed to be together but their undeniable love for one another was too much for them to ignore.

In secret, the two forbidden lovers got married but Anakin’s fear of losing Padme turned him on a dark path. She would end up dying from a broken heart and Anakin would go on to become one of the most feared names in the galaxy; Darth Vader.

Han Solo and Leia Organa

There’s something that’s still so endearing about Han and Leia’s infamous romance. Maybe it’s the tension that wracked their relationship, maybe it’s how they seemed like complete opposites but ended up falling for each other, whatever the case their love story has been magical to observe for decades.

It was a bit shocking to see that their relationship became so strained after their son, Ben Solo, went to the dark side but at the end of the day, they still loved each other more than anything else in the world. Beautiful.

Finn and Rose

Finn and Rose came together under one of the most unsuspected circumstances but it wasn’t long before it was clear that these two characters were meant for each other. Both have seen the dark side of the First Order and while Finn wasn’t immediately ready to join the Resistance and face the First Order Rose helped show him what it meant to fight for those who couldn’t fight for themselves.

By the end of The Last Jedi Rose has saved Finn’s life but nearly died in the process. Just before falling unconscious she tells Finn she loves him, shocking him with the unexpected announcement and a kiss. It’s at this moment that Finn’s affection for the Resistance mechanic becomes even truer.

Unfortunately, their story isn’t complete and I can’t wait to see what lies in store for them in Episode IX. (Hopefully, it’s a happy ending.)

Of course, there are other smaller relationships throughout the franchise that deserve a mention. The interesting relationship between Obi-Wan and Duchess Satine, the slight but riveting romance between Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor, Kylo Ren and Rey’s unexpected but expectedly delightful companionship.

There are many more relationships in Star Wars to enjoy but of these romances which one is your favorite? It’s hard not to place Han and Leia’s love story in the top spot but over the past few months, I have become such a fan of Finn and Rose’s relationship that I think they have my favorite Star Wars romance. But if Kylo Ren and Rey end up as a legitimate couple in Episode IX they will undoubtedly have my favorite love story in Star Wars.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. I’ve got to go with the timelessness of Han and Leia, but I have to agree I was a little let down by the strain between them in the newer movies. Though I suppose it would be not unusual for there to be a strain after “losing” their child.
