The Whisper Arrives
The Battle of New Alderaan was heating up as the First Order broke through the planet’s shields, descending their advance on the Resistance.
Inhabitants of the city were trapped, forced to watch as their beloved city was bombarded by the terrible anger of the First Order. Resistance cruisers and First Order Star Destroyers were duking it out while TIE fighters and X-Wings zipped by overhead in heated dogfights. First Order Stormtroopers were marching through the streets but they confronted a prepared army of Xipher warriors with their young Warden leading the charge, rebel stormtroopers led by Finn, a squadron of feisty mechanics helmed by Rose took their skills to the test as they attacked the First Order with all sorts of lethal contraptions of course, and finally Commander Chewbacca and his unit of Wookie warriors.
The war was in full swing and neither army could seem to defeat the other. Poe Dameron swooped by in his black-and-orange X-Wing, BB-8 beeping frantically as three TIE fighters chased after him.
“I see it. I see it!” he said as he flipped the X-Wing around and downed two of the fighters.
“Keep your head on a swivel,” Admiral Sterk said on the comms as she fought alongside her fellow Resistance soldiers in the city.
“You got it,” he replied.
Luke, John Skywalker, and Sergeant Keeli moved through the city, singlehandedly taking down stormtroopers and Walkers that sought to destroy the Resistance. Luke marveled at his son’s skills as he danced through the troopers with ease, utilizing every one of his gadgets and his tame ability with the Force. His style of fighting reminded Luke of Mara Jade, proving that he was indeed her mother’s son. Luke was proud.
John Skywalker, on the other hand, was marveling at Sergeant Keeli’s skills as she effortlessly used her two blasters to mow through stormtroopers.
Meanwhile, Leia, Admiral Ackbar, Lieutenant Connix, and the Calrissians were stationed in one of the few areas of the city that weren’t under full assault. As they gazed at the hologram Leia felt a sense of pride as she watched the First Order’s forces slowly but surely dwindling.
Supreme Leader Phasma, however, was not as joyous as she watched her army being pummeled by the Resistance. Officers stood around, gazing at her with sour expressions. She had bragged so much about her leadership qualities and yet her plan of attack was failing just like Supreme Leader Snoke and Hux. She kept a hand on her blaster just in case anyone dared to challenge her.
And then, there was a loud beeping on the bridge of the Star Destroyer. Phasma whirled.
“What is that?” she asked.
A young officer looked pale in the face as he turned his gaze to her.
“There’s something happening on the planet surface within the ocean.”
Phasma’s eyes widened beneath her chrome helmet. “What?”
As Maz’s ship emerged from hyperspace Maz didn’t waste any time connecting with the Resistance’s comms.
“General Organa, can you hear me? Retreat, retreat! The Whisper is coming. I repeat. This Whisper is coming!”
Leia’s eyes widened as she caught Maz’s transmission. Admiral Ackbar looked at her with confusion while Lando seemed horrified.
“Is that what Luke told us about?” he asked.
Leia nodded. “I have to find him before it’s too late.”
“Wait a minute,” Admiral Ackbar said. “What’s going on?”
“I’ll explain later. Just inform the Resistance that we must retreat,” Leia said before running off, her brown robe billowing behind her.
Luke could sense something was very wrong. He turned around in the middle of the battlefield, his gaze searching for Leia. She was warning him. Trying to tell him about something. And then suddenly, the ground heaved violently and he was thrown through the air. He twisted in midair, landing on his feet.
The stormtroopers, however, were not so lucky as they fell screaming into ravines.
“Keeli!” John yelled as Sergeant Keeli slipped and started to fall to her death.
Using his boosters he flew toward her and caught her, falling to the ground with her in his arms on the other side of the widening canyon that was forging its way through the ground.
Skyscrapers threatened to collapse, killing thousands, but Luke raised his hands, holding the buildings at bay with the Force. He gritted his teeth as the ground continued to tremble beneath his feet, breaking his concentration on holding the buildings. And then the struggle to keep the skyscrapers from crashing was alleviated as he felt assistance.
He looked to his right and smiled as he saw Leia approaching. She too was keeping the city aloft.
“I’m here,” she said.
“What’s happening?” he asked.
“It’s The Whisper,” Leia said. “Maz Kanata was right.”
Poe Dameron’s eyes widened as beheld what was happening down on Carcuun’s surface. The city trembled as a mountain of grey stone emerged from the ocean like a beast that had been hiding in the ocean’s depths for hundreds of years.
He was so distracted he didn’t notice the TIE fighter barreling toward him until it was too late. The fighter hit his X-Wing, shearing off one of the wings. Poe Dameron struggled to keep the X-Wing aloft but was crashing fast.
“This is going to be a bad landing buddy,” Poe told BB-8.
BB-8 beeped frantically in response.
“I know we’re gonna crash! Just prepare to eject.”
He steered toward the city, dipping beneath the skyline and plummeting toward the ground below where he caught glimpses of the chaos ensuing in the city below as stormtroopers, Resistance soldiers, and inhabitants of the city were running all over the place.
Several yards above the ground he and BB-8 ejected out of the X-Wing. A parachute emerged from a compartment in the astromech’s body and from another compartment a claw shot out, grabbing Poe, as they both slowly fell to the ground. Poe could only watch as his beloved X-Wing crashed in a ball of flame down the street, sending people scattering.
As he and BB-8 landed he was knocked to the ground as a violent bout of shaking rippled through the island. He could barely stay on his knees as he unholstered his blaster, downing two troopers nearby.
BB-8 was rattling around, whistling high-pitchedly in apparent horror.
“I don’t know what’s happening either, buddy!” he yelled over the chaos.
And then suddenly he saw the Millennium Falcon roar by overhead. BB-8 beeped excitedly.
“You’re right. Let’s go see if we can find Leia.”
Struggling but doing the best that they could they began to run through the city in an effort to find General Organa.
The Whisper emerged from the ocean, a mountain of rock beneath her feet jutting from the waves. She took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air.
“Oh, how I haven’t smelled this air in forever,” The Whisper spoke.
In the sky, war ensued. She shook her head. What a pitiful battle that she had concocted. But, as the harbringer of this chaos, as soon as she had brought it she could end it.
With her hand outstretched toward the massive ships in the sky she simply curled her fingers ever so slightly. The vessels immediately lost control, colliding into each other and plummeting toward the ocean below with plumes of fire and smoke pouring behind them. TIE fighters and X-Wings, affected by her power, were also sent careening out of the sky. She smiled at the death and destruction she had just caused.
The Whisper simply stepped forward, teleporting onto the island that had once been her home. Now it was a city crafted by simple humans. Putrid. She would restore it to its true form.
With a wave of her hand, she made as if to send the skyscrapers toppling but she was met by resistance.
“Jedi,” she whispered.
Rey ran from Maz’s ship, hoping to find Luke and Leia. She sprinted faster than she ever had but suddenly could barely keep her footing as the ground started to tremble.
She ignited her lightsaber, moving past hordes of people who were running for their lives screaming. She looked to the sky, gasping as a crashing Star Destroyer made directly for the city.
She stopped, raising her hands to halt the Destroyer’s advance. She gritted her teeth as she used every bit of her power to prevent the inevitable. With a strained yell, she diverted the Destroyer’s trajectory, sending it crashing toward the ocean.
With the immediate threat abated she continued forward, pumping her legs as hard as she could in search for Luke and Leia.
Luke and Leia stood straining as they kept the skyscrapers from toppling. And then, they felt a dark presence.
Luke looked and saw a woman cloaked in shadow approaching. No introductions were needed, for he knew exactly who it was.
She was the evil entity that the Jedi of old had described. A powerful being filled with darkness whose only goal was to rule the galaxy. Luke’s jaw clenched as he prepared for the fight of his life.
“Luke Skywalker,” she spoke. “How defiant you have been against my will.”
“I am a Jedi,” he replied. “Your temptation is weak against my resolve.”
“But your power is weak against my wrath.”
The Whisper threw a wave of darkness toward him but Leia raised her hand, blocking the attack with the Force. The being’s lip curled with disdain. Leia and Luke then stepped forward, using their power combined to send a massive barrage of power flying toward the dark presence.
She raised her hands, summoning a wall of dark energy to thwart their attack but Luke and Leia’s power and determination were greater. She was sent flying backward, screaming with rage, and then she stopped sliding, her eyes blazing with dark purple light.
“No!” The Whisper screamed. “I will not be defeated!”
She exploded into purple energy the size of the very skyscrapers. It was her true form.
“Die!” the being yelled, its feminine voice now distorted into a terrifying yell that echoed off the buildings around it.
The sky turned purple with the being’s power and the city was bombarded with energy. Skyscrapers were destroyed, people ran screaming for cover.
Poe was thrown backward into a building and knocked unconscious. Resistance and First Order troops were swallowed up by great ravines that appeared on the island’s surface. John Skywalker and Sergeant Keeli huddled beneath the fiery husk of a fallen Star Destroyer. Admiral Sterk screamed as she fell into a widening gorge. Admiral Ackbar and Lieutenant Connix disappeared as an X-Wing plummeted crashing toward them. Commander Chewbacca, Finn, and Rose scrambled into a building for cover. Rey was knocked to her knees as the brunt of The Whisper’s power hit her. Ahead she could see Luke and Leia also dropped to their knees, their hands raised as they struggled to shield themselves from the being’s wrath.
Luke and Leia knew they wouldn’t be able to defeat this powerful entity. It was impossible. But if they could save whoever was still alive on the island then they would not entirely be defeated.
Luke reached out to Leia. She grabbed his hand.
“You know what we must do,” he said.
She nodded grimly. They locked eyes and Leia suddenly felt tears.
With their hands clasped and their eyes closed, they tapped into the deepest reservoirs of their strength to perform something only done once before; teleportation through the Force.
Rey watched from afar in awe as Luke and Leia were surrounded by a dome of light that grew brighter and brighter. The Whisper seemed outraged.
“You cannot stop me! You cannot prevent your death!”
Purple energy rained upon the city and Rey raised her hand instinctively. Suddenly there was a great flash of light and as the wave of darkness crashed upon the city The Whisper could only gasp in shock.
Everyone who was still alive was gone. Everyone…except for Luke and Leia who lied upon the ground lifeless. The Whisper coalesced back into her human form, standing before the two offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
Everything that had taken place over the last millennia was because of her. This moment in time had become so perfect because of her masterful planning and tampering. And yet, because of the Jedi, she still hadn’t fully won. Her rule over the galaxy would never be entirely absolute, for there were still those like Rey who were out there, somewhere in the galaxy.
A snarl painted her face in a cruel expression and with a wave of her hand all of the skyscrapers in the city crumbled to the ground, burying Luke and Leia in a cloud of dust.
