Movie Review Flashback: My Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming

In preparation for Spider-Man: Far from Home which comes out next Tuesday here is my old review of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Enjoy!

I’ve just recently watched Spider-Man: Homecoming and this is what I have to say about it. This movie. Was. Amazing!!! Marvel really outdid themselves with this Spider-Man film. I had seen nearly every trailer, I had seen all of the tv spots and advertisements, but I never imagined that this movie would be as good as it was.

Spider-Man is a fan favorite, and for good reason. He’s a nerdy kid who obtained outstanding abilities from a radioactive spider and ended up becoming an incredible superhero who saves his hometown from all sorts of diabolical villains. Spider-Man is so famous that even before I knew anything about the difference between Marvel and DC Comics I knew who Spider-Man was.

There used to be this DVD I would watch, it was a cartoon called The Amazing Spider-Man, and I would watch it all of the time. There was Dr. Octopus, my favorite Spider-Man villain, the Green Goblin, and a whole bunch of other sinister antagonists. I loved it. I didn’t, at that time, know any other superheroes except for Superman and Batman. And even though I wanted to watch the actual Spider-Man movies I never could because there was just way too much suck facing in those films.

And then Sony just recently made two new Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield as the wall-climbing superhero and they weren’t that great. I only saw the second one with Jamie Foxx as the villain and while I did like Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man the story was terrible.

Then in 2016 Marvel partnered with Sony and a new Spider-Man was born.

Captain America: Secret War (THREE)

The capital of Estonia, Tallinn, was ultimately a peaceful town. Its menial population of 1.3 million made it almost a fairytale-like world as the city consisted of five-story rectangular buildings with colorful rooves–distinctly its red rooves made the city stand out–and churches whose individual steeples stood tall over the city’s flat skyline. Lying on the Gulf of Finland it was a dazzling city that would catch the fancy of any casual visitor. But for Dr. Frost and her posse of Winter Soldiers, it resembled more than simply a fun traveling destination. It was the first target in her goal of world domination.

What Could These Prophecies Mean for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’?

The Rise of Skywalker is less than six months away and the tension is rising. With each passing month, the fervor surrounding the film grows as I begin to wonder more and more what the heck is going to happen. With a heavy hitter like Emperor Palpatine returning to reprise his role in this Skywalker saga finale the questions I am dying to have answered are flying around inside my brain like a miniature cyclone.

Why is Palpatine back? If The Last Jedi wasn’t the end to the topic of Rey’s parentage then who are her parents? Who is the title, The Rise of Skywalker, talking about? Will Kylo Ren be redeemed? On and on and on my thoughts are racing about this final movie and yet I know I won’t have a definitive answer until I’m walking out of that theater after having finally watched the film on December 20. But…being a Star Wars fan, there’s always the chance that one can, as Darth Sidious said, “discover the secret.” Maybe there’s a hidden clue lying about in Star Wars lore that contains the key to the entire Rise of Skywalker plot. And I think I may have found that key. Continue reading What Could These Prophecies Mean for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’?
