The Live-Action Remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ Finds Its Ariel

As you may know, Disney is creating live-action remakes of its animated classics and The Little Mermaid is one of those films. Disney, in the last few years, has been pushing diversity more than ever and now that push has only grown, as African-American singer/actress Halle Bailey has been announced to recreate the princess we have grown up knowing as The Little Mermaid.

Halle Bailey is seen on the left with her sister, Chloe Bailey

Halle Bailey is currently on the hit television series, Grownish but she will surely become a mainstream actress after hitting the big screen as such an iconic character. Of course, there will be the haters but I’m very proud of what Disney has done. Plus, she has locks. Love it!

As a young African-American woman who prides in my own natural dreadlocks it’s nice to see this beautiful hairstyle celebrated. Halle Bailey, you’re going to be a Disney princess! Amazing.

Do you like the casting choice? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.

Why ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Is Amazing: The Beauty

I watch The Lord of the Rings all of the time. Well, truthfully, it’s always watching me because it puts me to sleep. I find this to be some of the most relaxing films ever made. But last night I decided to actually sit down and watch the movie, or at least a good chunk of it, and as I watched the film I quickly remembered why these are some of the greatest movies ever made.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is as perfect as three films can come. They’re so good even their extended versions are entertaining. They’re so fantastic in fact that for the next few days I’m going to share a new five-part series with you highlighting in detail why the Lord of the Rings films is so stupendous even after nearly twenty years.

And of course, the first reason why these movies have managed to stand the test of time is the beauty of these films. And I’m not just talking cinematography. I’m talking about straight up, point-blank, the natural beauty of the surroundings in these films. Continue reading Why ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Is Amazing: The Beauty

Here Are Some New Ideas Rian Johnson’s Trilogy Could Introduce

With Rian Johnson’s new trilogy set to come out…whenever…the slate will be wiped clean and he’ll have the incredible opportunity to shape a brand new story in this ever-expanding franchise. But with new stories come different concepts to things we may have or have not seen before. He has already announced that he wants to take the trilogy away from the classic Skywalker saga and begin a new legend. One that moves away from the iconography that Disney has been clinging on to for dear life. But how is he going to do that? Well, here are some of the ideas that I think could be instrumental in shedding new light on Star Wars. Enjoy!

New Galactic Soldiers

First Order Stormtroopers

Throughout Star Wars there is a common soldier of an army. Through the original trilogy it was the Imperial Stormtroopers. In the prequel trilogy, it was the droids of the Trade Federation and the Clones of the Republic Army. And now in the current trilogy, there are the First Order stormtroopers. So let’s say, theoretically, this new trilogy is set a thousand years into the future, as I explained in another post about Rian Johnson’s trilogy. There will undoubtedly be a new galactic order which means there needs to be soldiers to protect that order.

I think these soldiers should be actual warriors unprogrammed like robots in the fashion of the infamous stormtroopers but trained as people are trained every day in our real world to protect the galaxy they love. What their names will be, I don’t know, but I think it would be nice to see a different concept for soldiers beyond the monotonous clones and robots that we’ve seen before.
