Are the Ant-Man and Spider-Man Franchises In Trouble?

A couple of weeks ago during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, there were plenty of announcements to get excited about for the upcoming Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the MCU. We learned more about Black WidowShang-Chi and the Ten Rings, and Eternals, we learned that sequels in the work, and we discovered that the Fantastic Four, the Mutants, and Blade would be making their debut in the MCU in several years. It was a lot to take in. So much in fact that we almost forgot about two sequels that weren’t announced for a couple of franchises that have become very dear to my heart. That, of course, is the announcement of more Ant-Man and Spider-Man movies.

Every hero to have a film in the MCU has had a sequel that comes out two-three years after their previous film. All of course except for Doctor Strange whose sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is coming out five! years after his debut film in 2016, Doctor Strange. But we didn’t mind because he played such a prominent role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and even had a little nod-and-a-wink role in Thor: Ragnarok.

Ant-Man and Spider-Man, however, may not be so lucky.

While it was rumored that Spider-Man would get a sequel announcement at San Diego Comic-Con that didn’t end up happening and nothing was even spoken about an Ant-Man sequel. Once I realized this I have to admit, I was bummed.

Hope van Dyne just got the chance to shine as Wasp last year and while she did play a part in Endgame it wasn’t massive enough to knock anybody’s socks off. I want to see more from her and yet, maybe Marvel doesn’t. That’s a depressing thought.

And while I still haven’t seen Spider-Man: Far from Home yet it seems foolish to stop his story now. Iron Man has died, meaning new heroes will have to step forward and take the leadership role and I’m certain that’s what is being set up for everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man.

Of course, Marvel might bring these characters back into the fold in future Disney Plus series, which I’m sure will be just as fantastic and perfect to evolving their storylines as a movie.

All in all, I can’t wait to see these heroes back in action fighting whatever new evil may come their way alongside The Avengers. It’s going to be so much fun.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.
