Earlier today while doing my Who’s Your Favorite? series which featured an analysis of Leia’s several outfits throughout her time in this franchise I noticed something that blew my mind.
The three major characters of this sequel trilogy have been compared to the trio of the original trilogy which of course consisted of Luke, Han, and Leia, but it seems that J.J Abrams is playing to that similarity more closely than you might imagine.
Throughout most of the original trilogy, we saw Leia in white but when she returned for Return of the Jedi they gave her a different style.
In Return of the Jedi, she is given a rebel outfit that is completely different than the styles she had before that time.
And like Leia, Finn’s outfit in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi was very basic, with both looks holding onto the Poe Dameron jacket.
But if you look at Finn’s new outfit it’s a straight homage to Leia’s look. The brown long-sleeved shirt, the blue pants, the vest, it’s slightly different but it’s totally reminiscent of Leia’s Return of the Jedi look, which is absolutely fascinating!
I thought I’d share this observation with you and I hope you enjoyed. I thank you for reading and have a great day. May the Force be with you.
For the past couple of years, superhero movies have been recognized for more than just their impressive box-office numbers. Hugh Jackman’s last portrayal of the iconic superhero, Wolverine, came around in Logan, which would be nominated at The Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay. Then last year Black Panther was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and ended up winning three of them, shocking the world. At that moment, it became clear that superhero movies weren’t being looked at as merely popcorn flicks anymore.
These were solidly made, well-thought-out films that deserved just as much recognition as the more serious movies designed to receive Oscar buzz.
This year we have two AMAZING comic book movies that could get receive some serious Oscar buzz; Avengers: Endgame and Joker. For Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. could easily receive an Oscar nomination, considering that the film was his last outing as the iconic hero, Iron Man, and he evidently poured his heart into the final performance.
And with Joker just debuting at the Venice Film Festival, the buzz is persistent that this is one of the best movies of the year. And everyone agrees that Joaquin Phoenix will DEFINITELY be nominated for his role as the iconic DC Comics villain, The Joker. His portrayal of the dark and demented psychopath left viewers shaken and riveted all at once.
So, is it possible that this could be the first time we see two actors get the recognition they rightfully deserve for their roles in comic book movies at The Oscars? I sure hope so.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
Star Wars. It’s a story that resides in a galaxy far, far away, where powerful men and women dressed in iconic robes and wielding different colored laser swords have mysterious powers and follow their tales of destiny while fighting an endless battle between good and evil. There’s a lot to this incredible story that has spanned decades and wowed generations of fans and one of the elements to this franchise that is so much fun to explore is the characters’ individual styles.
Each and every character has a specific style that is created with such fine detail and so for the next couple of weeks, my Who’s Your Favorite? series will be brought to you every day and targeting a specific character and their overall style through their time in the franchise. And who better to start this series than with one of the most iconically dressed fictional characters, Princess Leia?
