It’s Two Weeks Until ‘The Rise of Skywalker’!

Earlier I shared a post looking back at the two-week milestone for The Last Jedi. Well, the two-week mark for The Rise of Skywalker has arrived and I am ecstatic. Absolutely, utterly ECSTATIC! How will this story conclude? What surprises are in store? How will J.J Abrams and fellow co-writer Chris Terrio resolve a story 42 years in the making? I have so many questions, questions that will be answered in two freaking weeks. I’m just…the excitement coursing through my veins is electric.

But for now, I will simply state what I’m most excited to see in this final film and try to deliver a cohesive post that doesn’t sound like I’m rambling in excitement because my brain is moving a million miles an hour right now. Lol, enjoy.

Rey’s Story

As with The Last Jedi, Rey’s story and involvement in this chapter of the Skywalker Saga are still very murky. We know she’s powerful, we know she holds importance to the outcome of whatever is about to happen, but the question is why? Rey was deemed a “nobody” in The Last Jedi but being a “nobody” doesn’t mean you’re not important.

Look at characters like Ezra Bridger, an orphaned kid whose power with the Force and determination to free his planet, Lothal, from the clutches of the Empire, led him to deliver one of the first major losses to the tyrannical regime. Or Han Solo, another orphan who went through life smuggling and getting ahead but would eventually be a thorn in the Empire’s sides as one of the Rebellions’ top leaders.

Rey may not have a powerful lineage to rest back on like Kylo Ren (or at least that’s what we think) but that doesn’t make her any less special.

Beyond simply the “Who is She?” question, however, lies a speck of worry that is continuing to grow inside of me. I’ve said it many times. Rey is VERY dark-side prone, meaning she could be very susceptible to Palpatine’s influence. And I, like many others, would be delighted to see the story take a darker turn and evolve Rey into someone corrupted by the darkness, at least for a short while. Not only would that be kind of scary but it would be the plot twist the trilogy needs to end the Skywalker Saga off with a bang.

Finn’s Story

Finn’s story has been nothing short of inspiring. He was, at first, a mindless stormtrooper, then he gained a conscience, and through the will of the Force (or luck, whatever you want to call it) met Poe who he helped rescue and in turn, was liberated from the First Order. He went on to meet Rey and together they forged an incredible friendship, one that pitted them against the First Order and it’s most powerful agent, Kylo Ren.

Finn would go on to be wounded but in his mind, his fight-or-flight response was still very active, but he wanted to fly away. However, after meeting Rose, he learned the importance of fighting for the Resistance and by the end of The Last Jedi, he had truly embraced what it meant to be a part of the Resistance.

Now, fast forward a year later, and it’s very clear that this is a new Finn. And he’s not only different because he’s got a new haircut and an eye-catching outfit. His demeanor has completely changed, showcasing the fact that he very much will be the “big deal” that he was claiming to be in The Force Awakens.

I think Finn’s story is what I’m most excited to see. I love Finn and knowing that The Force Awakens will feature his part in the story heavily is an exciting prospect.

Plus, J.J Abrams has confirmed that The Rise of Skywalker will deal with Finn’s origin, meaning I think it’s a 95% chance that Finn is Jannah’s brother. Just saying…

Very, very exciting stuff.

Kylo Ren’s Story

I think it’s pretty much a no-brainer that I’m elated to see what happens with Kylo Ren in The Rise of Skywalker. While many fans, including myself, are looking for #Bendemption Adam Driver, himself, is a bit confused.

“Why does Kylo Ren have to be redeemed?” he asked recently in an interview.

I’ll tell you why Mr. Driver. Because he killed Han Solo and we don’t want to believe Solo’s death was in vain. I want to know that Han’s death was the first step in Kylo’s turn from the dark side, or at least his renouncing of the First Order. Plus, the thought of him being redeemed sounds pretty cool.

Of course, from a writer’s standpoint, it’s such an obvious turn of events for Ren that they may not redeem Kylo, considering that it’s something we’ve been predicting for years. The whole point of a GREAT movie is to subvert expectations…but the last time we had major surprises in a Star Wars movie was The Last Jedi and that didn’t go over very well. We’ll see what happens.

I’m just excited to see the conclusion of Kylo Ren’s story, period.

Who’s Going To Say It First?

One aspect that has been very central to the previous Star Wars trilogies’ storylines but has been rather murky for this trilogy has been the romantic aspect. The Force Awakens introduced a close friendship between Rey and Finn, one that some deemed as merely close-friend status while others, like myself, believed would amount to something romantic later down the line.

The Last Jedi featured two important but not exactly final romances; one between Finn and Rose that concluded in a kiss and one, surprisingly, between Rey and her adversary, Kylo Ren, that featured some of the most romantic moments in the entire saga (shirt-off scene, hand-touching part, come on!)

However, The Rise of Skywalker is going to have to end the will-they-won’t-they debacle and place a ribbon on several or maybe one romantic conclusion.

But I have one very constant intrigue. Who will be the first person to say “I love you”? Ah, I can’t wait for that moment…if it comes at all. Geez.

That Incredible Space Battle!

There have been plenty of space battles in Star Wars but this one featured heavily in the promotional material in the tv spots and trailers, looks to be one of the most jaw-dropping things we might ever see pertaining to the franchise on the big screen. I. Can’t. Wait. To. See. This. In. IMAX!

The Lightsaber Duels

Lightsaber duels are the best! And The Rise of Skywalker, thanks to the long list of tv spots that have been released over the past week or so, have showcased that there will be at least two lightsaber duels between Rey and Kylo Ren and I’m hoping both are fun to watch.

And finally, the Music

This is very likely John Williams’s last musical venture with a Star Wars film and I’m sure, like, with The Force Awakens, he has concocted a fascinating musical score that will bring all of the themes from the previous eight movies into play. This, combined with the new music Williams has created for this film, will surely deliver an experience that will truly be unforgettable, particularly in the movie theaters.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day. May the Force be with you, always.

  1. Yyeeessssss! Bring it ON. Fans are waiting.

I’m seriously looking forward to this. J.J. Abrams has a tall order to fill with so many fans still wanting answers but I’m feeling good optimism with him.

Nonetheless, there seems to be, very recently a focus on Palpatine still being alive. Ok, fine. But while so many are gabbing about that, I am *still* wondering in the next movie: (in no particular order)
    1. Was Snoke really Palpatine? Snoke looked skinny. burned and battered. Is that because he was Palpatine and the explosion did that to him when Darth Vader threw him
    “down the chute”?

    2. WHO, really, are Rey’s parents? (They had better answer that one or fans will be furious!)
    3. She’s been flying under the radar, but WHO is Maz Kanata?

    4. Why did YODA never mention Snoke?
    Why didnt Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Snoke said he had “seen the rise of the Republic”, so he must have been around a long time.
    5. Who originally created the First Order and what was its purpose in the beginning?

    6. Almost no one at all ever talks about the small boy at the end of The Last Jedi who was using the force to sweep with a Broom? What is HE is THE Skywalker who will rise? Because……(see next)–
    7. What id REY dies at the end of this movie. killing Palpatine? Could that “bring an end to the Saga” and then the small boy usijng the force could rise, be the new skywalker? Like Rey, How and where did he get his ability? –and the story could continue in ..?….several possible directions.

    8. Will there be any travels into, and deeper into “the Unknown regions”? What technology might be found there? What people? WHO are “the Chiss”? Are they good or bad?

    9. What if Kylo Ren stays “Dark”, gets killed, but Palpatine survives and Rey also survives? What then?
    10. How will Force-Ghosts interact with Rey?
The Audience STILL wants Answers!! But I’m hoping. Gooooo J. J. Abrams!
