One of my goals is to eventually watch every Best Picture winning film and my list is gradually growing. I have now added another film to my enlargening wealth of movie knowledge and I have to say, I really enjoyed this movie. Yeah, the colors can be a bit droll and the lack of music, or excitement a.k.a action can cause one to get rather drowsy while watching the film but honestly, I was blown away by the biopic.
Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter, and everyone else involved, did absolute phenomenal jobs bringing this true story to life; a story that tells the extraordinary tale of the stammering Duke of York and his challenge to abate his speech impediment as he faces the arisal of becoming the King of England during one of the scariest times of our world’s history, World War II.
I was sucked into this film’s story until, by the film’s predictable but beautiful conclusion, I was in near tears with sheer happiness. This is a movie worth watching and definitely one of my favorite biopics. Now, should it have beaten Inception? Well, considering that it’s taken me several viewings of the epically strange, thoughtfully provocative, and riveting Christopher Nolan film to finally get what the heck is going on I guess it does deserve the win.
I’m giving this film a solid 98 out of 100 and 4.5 out of 5 stars. It’s nearly a perfect movie but like I said before, it can be a bit slow, and because of that it’s not an entirely impeccable film.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.
