For the third time yesterday, (yes, third time!) I watched X-Men: Dark Phoenix and as I sat riveted before the television I found myself wondering why people hate this movie so much? I remember the scathing reviews. Fans said it was horrible, displayed some downright terrible acting, and was the worst X-Men movie ever made. How can that be?
The film is well-edited, allowing me to understand what’s happening in the story. The acting seems pretty much similar to the acting in the other X-Men movies. And the action is definitely the best of the X-Men films besides Logan.
This movie makes me happy on so many levels. The music, composed by Hans Zimmer, is dark and powerful, imbuing every scene with a sense of purpose. The X-Men get to really shine as powerful units who play upon each other’s strengths to fight various enemies. And the movie has the best CGI of the films which almost feels like a miracle considering how bad the CGI can be. By the film’s conclusion, I am legitimately pleased every time.
No, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is not the greatest superhero movie ever made but it sure isn’t the worst either. For those of you who are straying from this film because of the bad reviews don’t. It’s pretty good and definitely is far better than the neigh sayers are blaring.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
