I love movie posters! Teaser posters, official posters, they are all very, very fascinating. Sometimes posters can be a bit underwhelming but overall they provide the vibe for a movie long before you’ve seen the story. Here’s a look at the three teaser posters for The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker. Enjoy!
The Force Awakens
This teaser poster is very simple and to the point. These four characters are the main characters of this new trilogy, the illustrated effect gives it an original trilogy feel, and there is a clear distinction between the dark and the light, with Rey unexpectedly standing in the middle. Fascinating.
The Last Jedi
With red being the dominant color and theme of The Last Jedi, this poster strikes you in the eyeballs with its blatant call to attention. Rey stands like Luke on the poster for A New Hope, her arm stretched to the sky as she holds the lightsaber. But once again, as with the teaser poster for The Last Jedi, the poster subtly hints at the idea of Rey’s faltering allegiance to the light.
See how the lightsaber goes from blue to white to red? Or is it from red to white to blue? Hmm. So interesting…
And with Luke and Kylo looming on the poster it’s very clear the importance that they have in Rey’s story.
The Rise of Skywalker
And now we have the final poster and it’s obvious that this last movie is set to be the darkest of the trilogy. With Rey and Kylo Ren locked in a fierce battle, Rey now purposely positioned on the side of the light and Kylo Ren also firmly on the side of darkness, and Palpatine’s evil presence looming, it’s clear, The Rise of Skywalker is going to be a doozy.
So, of these teaser posters which is one your favorite? This may surprise you but my favorite is actually The Last Jedi teaser poster. There is so much storytelling and theories one can glean from what is, in essence, the simplest poster of the bunch that I can literally stare at it for thirty minutes straight and still feel like there’s a hidden meaning to the poster I haven’t quite discovered.
The new poster for The Rise of Skywalker is clearly spectacular but the only problem I’m having with it is that Palpatine almost looks like a game character on the poster. It’s as if they CGIed his face onto the poster and I’m just not feeling it as much as I thought I would.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day. May the Force be with you.
