Counting Down my 20 Favorite Trailers: #18-‘The Avengers’

I still remember seeing this trailer for the first time. I was wowed, to say the least. For the first time, we were getting a chance to see all of these heroes together and it looked like the movie was going to be epic! Here’s the trailer.

It’s really the last bit of the trailer that had me staring at the screen in sheer awe, mainly the part when Iron Man appears with a giant alien flying behind him, shattering the building in the process. My brain exploded with anticipation.

This movie could’ve been a flop and that probably would’ve sent fans packing. Instead, it was a marvel (no pun intended), delivering one of the best stories in the MCU still to this day while staying true to the fabric of each character.

Plus, when a movie is actually better than the trailer, that’s always a great feeling.

Steve Rogers turned on the television, his eyebrows furrowed as he hurriedly filtered through the stations until he found a news channel. The headlines read: EUROPE FALLS UNDER ATTACK BY WOMAN IN GOLDEN MASK.

Sharon Carter was already on the phone talking with her confidant, Baker.

“What’s going on?” she asked as she paced back and forth on the other side of the room. “Who is the woman in the golden mask?”

Revisiting ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ After Nine Years

Over the years I’ve seen many, many movies. Some have been incredible and downright unforgettable. Others come and go, scattering among your memories like sand in the wind. I completely forgot about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a film that my sister and I picked on for years after watching the movie back in 2011, but when it was announced that it would be coming to Disney+ I had to give it a look.

The movie was better and worse than I remembered.

First off, at the time, I had no idea who Jake Gyllenhaal was so he was a brand new face to me. Now, after seeing him in Spider-Man: Far from Home where he plays the really cool antagonist Quentin Beck/Mysterio/almost-fatherly-figure-to-Peter-Parker, I couldn’t help feeling weird seeing him as this supposedly hot, British-accented Persian prince who was not afraid to show he had been working out. What’s Your Favorite ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie?

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will be getting a much-needed reboot in the coming years with Margot Robbie set to star in it but until then we can only look fondly (or poorly) on the five movies Disney has given us featuring pirates, romance, and epic sword fighting duels.

Let’s take a closer at each film.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean was based on a ride at Disney World. Yes, an amusement park ride! Yet, with a great script and perfect casting, this movie excelled all expectations and is considered by many as one of the greatest Disney movies of all time.

With a very basic plot (a young man and rascally mentor of sorts must save a beautiful damsel from scary bad guys) the movie never fails to bring joy to the viewer. Its extensive runtime makes it feel like the film goes on forever and by the time it’s done you feel like you’ve enjoyed a spectacular ride.
