Counting Down My 20 Favorite Trailers: #11-‘Mulan’

I loveĀ Mulan. I have since I was a child. When they announced they were going to make a live-action version of the film I was excited, then I saw the trailer and got even more excited.

There have been several trailers of the film but it is the official one that has impacted me the most. Here it is.

I don’t know why but this trailer always almost brings me to tears. I think it’s the use of the music for “Reflection” as the background for the story of this trailer that just utterly ruins me! Plus, it just looks like it’s going to be really fun to watch.

I love this trailer!!!

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.

Captain America: Secret War (TWELVE)

Natasha Romanoff was at first shocked to see Nick Fury and Agent Hill but then a smile spread on her face. There was no reason to be surprised. This is how he and Hill always worked. They would find mysterious ways to always be one step ahead. In fact, seeing them was relieving.

“Director Fury, Agent Hill, what are you doing here?” Sharon Carter asked, her eyes wide in disbelief.

Nick Fury shrugged. “With a terrorist who used to work for HYDRA on the loose in Europe and you guys in desperate need of regrouping, I figured you all would probably come here.” Continue reading Captain America: Secret War (TWELVE)

‘Birds of Prey’: Awesome Girl Power + Boring Origin Story = Mediocre Movie

First off, DC Comics is desperately trying to forge a path of its own with films that stray from the comic book norm. There wasĀ Joker, a film that garnered two Oscar wins and multiple nominations, including Best Picture which was followed closely by the Joker’s wacky girlfriend’s standalone film debut,Ā Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Yeah, the name is a bit long and it, like this movie, was a problem because it never tried to just be simple.

Harley Quinn, of course, is extra and because of that, her movie is destined to be a bit eccentric, and eccentric it was. There were some fun details like whenever Harley Quinn identified for the viewer a person she’s made really angry. The movie would pause, draw something funny around the guy’s (or lady’s) face, draw their name, and detail the reason why they were Quinn’s enemies. That was hilarious because it kept happening.

What wasn’t fun was how hard this movie was trying to be cool.

I get it. Female comic book characters don’t get a lot of standalone movies so when they do get one you want it to be awesome right? Of course, but so much attention was thrust into the idea for this film to feel like the next greatest thing for women since the Women’s March on Washington in 2017 that it wasn’t allowed time to just be a good comic book movie.

The only great thing about this movie is the bad*** broads that occupy its runtime. Continue reading ‘Birds of Prey’: Awesome Girl Power + Boring Origin Story = Mediocre Movie

Who’s Your Favorite Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most belovedĀ Star WarsĀ characters for one simple reason; he’s awesome. He wowed fans when he was introduced as theĀ Star WarsĀ version of the Wizard MerlinĀ inĀ A New Hope. And he was easily the coolest character in the often harangued prequel trilogy. So, on this week’s segment ofĀ Who’s Your FavoriteĀ I’m tackling one of the greatest Jedi that has ever lived; Obi-Wan Kenobi. Enjoy!

Classic Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi might’ve died inĀ A New HopeĀ but he lived on in ghost form throughout the classic trilogy, randomly delivering Luke wisdom and being awesome. One of my favorite scenes inĀ The Empire Strikes BackĀ is when Obi-Wan Kenobi visits Luke in Hoth. It’s the first time we see Obi-Wan in physical ghost form and it’s always fascinated me seeing him standing in the snowy gloom telling Luke to go to the Dagobah system. Old Obi-Wan is awesome.
