Departure for the mission ahead was coming too fast for Sharon’s liking. Less than a day ago she had been inches from death. Now, she was back in her suit, her guns holstered to her thighs and her heart beating with the frantic attitude of someone about to do something very dangerous.
Around her, the others were talking among themselves or readjusting their gear and suits. There was a grim tension in the air as everyone prepared to partake in something they had never done before. But first, they had to survive in London.
Sharon Carter’s head turned as The Ancient One entered the room. She immediately approached her, placing a hand on her arm.
“Can I talk to you a moment?” Sharon asked.
The Ancient One looked up at her with that calm smile that seemed rich with wisdom. “Of course.”
Sharon pulled her aside before sighing. “I just want to know, since we’re going back in time and you’ve potentially seen all of the outcomes to this mission…is there a chance I can save her?”
The Ancient One looked confused. “Save who?”
“Dr. Frost. You see…she’s my sister and knowing that she’s been taken over by this thing, I just want to know if there’s a chance I can help her.”
The Ancient One placed an assuring hand on her shoulder. “When the time comes you will have to decide whether to save her or not.”
That didn’t make Sharon feel any better but she nodded anyway. The bald woman smiled at her before joining everyone else in the room. Queen Mother Ramonda looked on as The Ancient One began to speak.
“You know the plan. Natasha and Vision, you will rescue Sam and Wanda. The rest of you will go after King T’Challa and Nakia. There will be an army waiting for you so must be prepared for anything.”
“We can handle that,” Steve Rogers said confidently.
“I will be waiting for you. As you all know you will have to arrive at the same time for us to be able to then perform the time travel maneuver. Time travel is tricky but thankfully where we’re going there should be no complications.”
“I have a question which I’m sure is the same question everyone else is thinking?” Colonel Rhodes asked.
Everyone turned to look at him. Nick Fury wore a smirk on his face.
“What’s going to happen to us? I mean, with the time travel and everything.”
The Ancient One smiled. “Nothing. If everything goes as planned you will return to your normal settings as if nothing ever happened. If things don’t go as planned I cannot describe to you how bad things will be for not only our world but others in the galaxy.”
A seriousness descended upon them like a falling sheet.
“Is everyone ready?” The Ancient One asked.
“No,” General Okoye commented.
That remark garnered a few quiet chuckles.
As The Ancient One created a portal to their destination Vision was the first to walk through followed by Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff, Nick Fury and Agent Hill, Sharon Carter and Colonel Rhodes, and General Okoye.
Shuri walked toward the portal, her heartbeat quickening as she stared at the phenomenon before her.
“So I’m guessing this is how you “walked in” to our palace?” she said, looking at The Ancient One with a knowing gaze.
The Ancient One smiled in response.
Shuri then turned to look back at her mother who was watching. She tried to give Shuri a reassuring smile but her eyes were riddled with worry. Shuri made the “Wakanda Forever” salute before facing forward and walking through the portal to an uncertain fate.
