If you’ve been reading my blog you may know that I am an Alfred Hitchcock fan. His movies are top-notch, his directorial vision is stellar, and he’s simply an inspiration. Being the Alfred Hitchcock fan that I am I decided to do something really fun; recast his most iconic films with current Hollywood stars that would be great fits for these movies. So, with no further delay, let’s begin with North by Northwest.

In this action-packed thriller filled with twists and turns you had leading man Cary Grant and his beautiful spy love-interest, Eva Marie Saint. Together, they carried this riveting story that doesn’t let up until the film’s abrupt conclusion.
So, who could play the confused-but-quick-witted businessman, Roger Thornhill and the beautiful-yet-cunning CIA agent, Eve Kendall?

Bingo, Idris Elba! I can just see him as the New York businessman-turned-hunted-CIA-decoy Roger Thornhill. He has the charm, he has that same Hollywood leading man quality as Cary Grant, and he’s someone easy to root for.
Now, there’s so many women I can imagine playing Eve Kendall but my immediate choice was…

Scarlett Johansson! Eve is supposed to be this drop-dead gorgeous lady that Mr. Thornhill runs into on the train but secretly she’s this total bad*** working for her country. I can see Johansson playing that role but at the end she’s less of a damsel in distress and can really handle herself in those final moments in this revamped version of North by Northwest.
Okay, next up…Rope.

Now, this, this is a tough one for me. You see, I’m not really familiar with a whole lot of actors. I mean, I do know a bunch of actors, but I’m not very familiar with younger actors and Rope essentially needs two college-age or college-looking actors to play the roles of Brandon and Phillip. But hey, this is a modern version, isn’t it? So that means it’s time to do some gender swapping.
So, with that in mind, I think I’ve got an idea.

For the role of Phillip I would pick Zendaya (of course, her name in the film would have to change.) She was just awarded an Emmy for her role on the critically-acclaimed series, Euphoria, a show that deals with teenagehood and drugs. Apparently, she can take herself to a pretty dark place and so the idea of her playing a character who finds a thrill in killing someone for no reason sounds like something that could be really fun to see her flesh out.
Now, who would play her conscience-stricken friend, Brandon?

I can totally see Kristen Stewart play this role. The slow mental breakdown of the character, that type of emotion could be tapped into by Stewart.
And since I seem to have gender-swapped the two main characters of this film I guess I might as well gender-swap Rupert and I know just the person to play that role.

Viola Davis! Can’t you see her staring at these two young girls with that scrutinous eye of hers? Oh, it would be great!
Now…hmm, let me think. Which movie next? The Birds.

Now, who would I recast for The Birds? Easy.

Once I thought about it, I just can’t unsee Emily Blunt being recast in The Birds if it was modern. She seems like a perfect pick and we’ve seen her in partial-horror flicks before (A Quiet Place.) I think she would be great.
So…there are a lot of Alfred Hitchcock movies and that’s why I’ve decided to break this series into parts. What do you think about these recasting picks of mine? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.
