I’ve often seen this movie, Snowpiercer, as I filed through the movie library on Netflix but I never decided to watch it…until yesterday. The film, written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, the same brilliant man who wrote/directed the historic Oscar-winning movie, Parasite, stars Chris Evans in an intense sci-fi movie unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
Snowpiercer, set in the near-future 2031, follows the story of the last dregs of humanity who are forced to live on the most incredible train ever built after the world is completely frozen into ice following the events of global warming. All life on Earth is extinct and life on the train for the poor is savage.
We enter the movie with the poor citizens of the train preparing to revolt. What transpires over the next hour and fifty minutes is utter plot-twist storytelling that gripped me intently, leaving me in utter silence and in tears.
Snowpiercer is shockingly good on so many levels as it shows the brutality of class divisions in an artful way that left me shaken and wowed. Chris Evans shines as the reluctant leader of his fellow rebels, delving into another level of acting I haven’t seen from him before. I found myself cheering him on as “Captain America” for the most part but after a while I could only sit back and be sucked onto this wild train ride.
Bong Joon Ho is a sensational director who deserved the Oscars he finally won for last year’s Parasite. The man understands how to make a movie not only compelling but how to tell a deeper story that makes a film unforgettable.
If you haven’t seen Snowpiercer do yourself a favor and check this movie out. You will not be disappointed. But, I have to warn you, if you’re not one for gruesome violence or darker-themed movies this one may not be for you.
I’m giving this film 100 out of 100 and 5 out of 5 stars.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.
I didn’t know this was a movie, lol. I’ve seen previews of the TV show “Snowpiercer” on TNT for awhile, and it looks really good. I’d love to watch it, but I don’t have TNT. But maybe I can check out the movie. Have you watched the TV show?
