One thing that we know about Disney is it is a company that thrives on diversity and inclusiveness. Since last September, Gina Carano has been on the naughty list after changing her Twitter bio pronouns to beep/bop/boop as a joke against those who use different pronouns to identify themselves.
This was just before the second season of The Mandalorian came out and after these comments Star Wars fans began to request her removal from the series. But that wasn’t enough to get rid of her and I was glad of that. I personally loved Gina’s role as Cara Dune and her undeniable toughness. She was one of the coolest heroines I’ve seen in any television show or movie and I loved her inclusion in the series. But unfortunately, she just wouldn’t stop rambling on Twitter and Instagram as she shared anti-semitic, anti-COVID, transphobic, pro-conspiracy-theorists rhetoric on her social media platforms.
And yesterday, the call for her removal from The Mandalorian boiled over after she posted on Instagram that being a Trump-supporting Republican was the same as being a Jew during the Holocaust. That was it. That was the final straw that forced Disney’s hand, hence she will no longer be a part of Star Wars or any other Disney project.
I’m kind of bummed, actually, because I really liked her as Cara Dune. She was quickly ascending the ranks of my favorite Star Wars characters and I couldn’t wait to see her shine in what was most likely her spinoff series, Rangers of the New Republic. But I am confident that whoever will be recast in the role will be an exceptional choice and could become an even better Cara Dune in the same vein that Don Cheadle was far greater as James Rhodes in the MCU.
So…now we just have to wait and see who will be our new Cara Dune. That’s an exciting thought.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.
