‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’: The Parallels Part 2

I wrote a post last week sharing my thoughts on the striking parallels between Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and now that another episode has come, I’m here to share my observations of what parallels I noticed for this latest episode. Enjoy!

SPOILERS for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier AHEAD!

Heroes Go Rogue

In The Winter Soldier, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff team up and go rogue to find out who “killed” Nick Fury. Of course, that being the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes.

In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky (mainly Bucky) and Sam decide to take matters into their own hands by going to see Zemo and then consequently breaking him out of jail. It’s a very risky move considering that they’re living on the edge of being fugitives again but it was the only thing they could do in order to get closer to discovering the rise of the new super soldiers in the Flag Smashers.

The Masterminds

At about the halfway mark in The Winter Soldier, Steve and Natasha end up confronting Zola, the mastermind behind Hydra’s secret takeover of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s the moment that everything comes to light in the film and a clear path is set for the primary protagonists of the story.

The same happens in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Sam and Bucky find out the whereabouts of the doctor who is creating the new does of super soldier serum and now that we know that the Flag Smashers are, in fact, imbued with the same strength as Bucky then that puts this whole show into a different context. And the fact that he made TWENTY vials, oh snap. This show could go somewhere really quickly.

Steve/Natasha and Sam/Bucky/Sharon even had to survive explosive situations so that’s another similarity.

(Sam needs to inject himself with some of that super soldier serum and become extra awesome. 😁)

Those Shocking Moments

It was after the Arnim Zola sequence that we discovered that Secretary Pierce was actually a villain which was rather shocking but a necessary plot twist to make the movie that much better.

At the end of this episode we discover that, because Zemo is loose, a certain Wakandan has come to get him. That of course is this bad*** broad named Ayo who is General Okoye’s right-hand woman and had one of the best moments in Captain America: Civil War. You know the one.

“Move, or you will be moved.” *chills*

To bring her into this series is not only exciting but so fitting and I’m just ready for next week.

These are the parallels that I noticed in this week’s episode. I’m proud to say that last week I predicted that Zemo could become an unexpected ally and sure enough he was…at least for now. I still don’t think Sam and Bucky should trust a man who was so smart he managed to tear The Avenger apart. I mean, he literally hates The Avengers and he’s just nonchalantly helping Sam who is one. It’s a bit fishy but I guess Ayo will fix any ideas he may have.

By the way, I just love the fact that Bucky is so tight with the Wakandans. It’s the coolest thing!

So there’s my post. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.
