I don’t watch a lot of apocalyptic movies but whenever I do I’m expecting over-the-top ridiculousness. And that’s what I was expecting with this new apocalyptic film, Greenland, starring Gerard Butler. I remember seeing it in the movie theaters last year when my family and I went to see Tenet. I thought it looked ridiculous but kind of interesting. So when I saw it was on HBO Max my sister and I decided to watch it.

The film actually surprised the heck out of me. The first hour and ten minutes of the movie are its best, throwing plot twist after plot twist that catches the viewer completely offguard. The last fifty minutes got a bit cheesy and dragged a little longer than I may have liked but when the film concluded I had a tear in my eye, I’m not going to lie.
No, Greenland isn’t exactly anything new, but it takes a more realistic approach to an apocalyptic situation and I appreciated that. If you’re in for a good matinee movie that’ll stress you out then this is one to watch.
I’ll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars and 85 out of 100. It’s almost 4 stars worthy but it kind of got exasperating after a while. But like I said, it was better than I expected so…yay?
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
