I’ve loved Avatar: The Last Airbender since I was a child as I watched the last season, or book, every single day for much of my years through my early tweens. And then I eventually watched the series as a whole, enjoying the first two books and being amazed by how great the story was overall.
A few years ago, I returned to the hit Nickelodeon series again and was once again blown away by how exceptional the story was. And now, starting just last week, I’ve started the series over again for a third time and I still cannot get over how great and groundbreaking this series is.
In the same vein as great franchises like Star Wars or Marvel, the story of the Avatar in The Last Airbender is told so perfectly because it is surrounded by a comprehensive world and written by storytellers who knew exactly what story they wanted to tell. Each episode, even the earliest ones, seemed rooted in foreshadowing hints that lead to other more important moments in the series. No episode fills like a wasted filler episode because each episode tells a story and builds the characters in a way that will impact them down the road.

I’ve seen some great animated series in my time but none shine quite like Avatar: The Last Airbender. I don’t know what Netflix has in store for their live-action version take on the iconic series but considering that the creators of The Last Airbender relinquished their partnership with Netflix is already a bad sign. We’ll see what happens…
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.
