The Bad Batch has had its ups and downs but yesterday’s episode was all pros, no cons, and now I’ve got to write about it.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
First off, and I’m going straight to the nitty-gritty with this evaluation, was that a first rendition of Snoke?
In Episode 4 of The Mandalorian‘s second season we saw Mando and co. go into an Imperial facility on Nevarro where they encountered blue tubes with the remains of what appeared to be a botched Snoke clone. I immediately began to suspect that these shows Filoni were producing were going to try to make the sequels make more sense. And no, these connections won’t ultimately fix the debacle that is the sequel trilogy (only an animated remake of the trilogy would fix that) but it can make the sequel trilogy a little bit better.
Now, in this episode, we’ve seen more experiment tubes, this time with green gook inside, and inside that green gook we managed to see a large alien that looked like a hybrid between a Grey and whatever Snoke is.
This feels like an early rendition of what Snoke turned out to be but the real question is, what eventually succeeded in creating Snoke to the point where he could shoot lightning out of his fingers with a simple gesture?
I think we’re going to get this question answered in either this show or maybe the Ahsoka series.
And then there’s the other major bombshell of the show and why I truly believe this series is connected to The Book of Boba Fett. Yesterday’s episode answered the question of why Omega is deemed so special. Apparently she’s made of first-generation genetic material from Jango Fett, resulting in the notion that she is Boba’s sister.
Why would Filoni reveal to us that Fett now has a sister months before his show comes out? It’s not a coincidence and I am totally here for it. Plus, the show is roughly six months away and we haven’t gotten any casting news which means…
Here’s to hoping for her live-action debut in The Book of Boba Fett.

The proto-Snoke angle did sort of occur to me on a visual level, but this seems way too early in the timeline for that. Snoke wasn’t exactly a spring chicken in the sequels (and I agree, there’s not a lot these shows could do to save them), but this would indicate that some form of Snoke was an actual contemporary to Vader. To be honest, that would actually outright bug me as a creative decision unless it were intended to establish that Sidious used to throw proto-Snokes at Vader to mow down as a challenge, and the actual Snoke was one that came out of the vats when Vader was gone and couldn’t kill him off. I think I like the idea better that Snoke was either a late Empire or post Empire contingency plan in case the main Sith ever died, though.
I hadn’t thought about the idea that Omega is a setup for Boba’s series. Interesting idea.
The one thing I had in my own write up on this is… I kind of wonder where this is going for the Kaminoans themselves. I find myself suspecting strongly that this is not going to end well for them.
