My favorite animated Star Wars series is Star Wars: Rebels so it’s no surprise that this week’s episode, “The Devil’s Deal”, which veers away from The Bad Batch to focus on Ryloth, home of the Twi’leks and its citizens, was so enjoyable for me.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
In a surprise twist that I didn’t see coming we’re reunited with Cham and Hera Syndulla. It was really fun to see Hera as a child before she becomes the incredible rebel leader that we know her to be in Rebels. We also, for the first time, meet her mother who is unsurprisingly awesome. The apple apparently didn’t fall far from the tree.
As exciting as it was to see these characters again I couldn’t help feeling a growing sense of anxiety considering that I know the outcome of the Syndullas’ story and it is not a happy ending, specifically for Hera’s mother.
I was so emotionally invested in this episode, in fact, that toward the end I found myself having to fight back tears. I just knew at some point Crosshair was going to shoot Hera’s mother. It didn’t happen but it sure did seem like it was about to, and the notion that we were going to see Hera’s mother die was honestly kind of terrifying.
When the episode concluded I realized why the next episode is called “Rescue of Ryloth.” Apparently, The Bad Batch are going to have to save Hera from the Empire which should be an exciting twenty minutes of content. After that, we’ll be at the last stretch of the series with only four episodes left.
Considering where we are in the story it seems that maybe we should get another season of The Bad Batch because I don’t see this story concluding in five episodes. But we’ll see what happens.
All in all, I really enjoyed this episode and it’s undoubtedly my favorite episode since the premiere. I hope The Bad Batch can remain this good for the next five episodes because if so, it’ll be a strong conclusion to the somewhat entertaining series.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a splendid day. May the Force be with you.
