I’ve Seen Two More Movies: ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and ‘Patton’

Well, I’ve seen two more movies I’ve never watched before; a sentimental Disney flick and a Best Picture-winning World War II film. So, with no further delay, here are my reviews.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The Hunchback of Notre Dame' at 25: 'The Most R-Rated G You Will Ever See' - The New York Times

I’d been putting this movie off for a while because I knew it was going to make me cry a lot. And even with that prediction I still was not ready for the utter wrecking of my emotions that this film was going to inflict upon me.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a powerful story about acceptance and I was simply overwhelmed by the beauty (and darkness) of this story.

The animation is honestly the most beautiful I’ve seen for any of the 90s’ Disney movies. The level of emotion the animators were able to convey in this film was stunning, especially during the very dark (and surprisingly mature) “Hellfire” number. Woo! My eyes were wide with horror and appreciation during that musical sequence.

By the time the movie concluded I was an emotional mess. I’m talking a torrential downpour leaking from my eyes. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is now an instant favorite of mine among the Disney films.

5/5 stars

The Poster for ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Is Here!

Well, it’s almost time for the next chapter in live-action Star Wars awesomeness in the form of The Book of Boba Fett, a spinoff featuring yours truly, Boba Fett.

To think, after so many years of fans clamoring for Boba Fett to get his own standalone film, here we are, on the brink of a chance to see this ultra-cool bounty hunter in all of his glory. Here’s the poster.

Yeah, it’s nothing special but it does set a tone; this is Boba’s story and it’s going to be daaark. I like it.

Oh, and we have an official release date too: December 29. Turns out this show’s premiere is arriving on the same day as Hawkeye‘s season finale so…that’s going to be one heck of a Wednesday!

Considering that this poster dropped yesterday can we assume we’ll be getting a trailer soon? 👀

Oh, I hope so.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day.

‘What If…?’ Left Me Gobsmacked Today

Once again, Marvel Studios proves that they know how to make us happy and boy, did they penultimate episode push me over the moon.

The series has been slowly leading to a fascinating finale but now, with context, this finale could turn out to to one of the most epic MCU showdowns of all time.

Ultron is the star of this week’s rodeo and oh, he does not disappoint. For all of us who wished he had been a bit scarier in Age of Ultron we got our wish tenfold. This week’s episode was pure exhilaration from beginning to end as it showcased so many jaw-dropping moments. And that ending! Wow that ending had me floored.

Hmm, is What If…? my new favorite Marvel Disney+ series?

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.

The Domestic Box Office Numbers for ‘Shang-Chi’ Are Impressive but Are They Really?

Two years ago when Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con that an obscure Marvel hero named Shang-Chi, portrayed by newcomer Simu Liu, was about to get his own film I was excited but skeptical.

SDCC 2019: Marvel Studios' 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Announced and Cast Revealed | Marvel

With Phase Four becoming a chance for Marvel Studios to finally tell more and more diverse stories the notion of an Asian superhero getting their own movie was thrilling but it felt like the franchise was piggybacking off of Black Panther‘s success.

Not to mention the fact that when I did research on the character he was known as a stereotypical Kung Fu Master instead of just being a cool superhero with special powers.

Even when the first teaser for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings dropped I was pleased with the look of the movie but I ultimately didn’t think it would be that great. Fast forward a few months later and suddenly the critic and fan reactions for the film are pouring in describing a film with some of the best action scenes in the MCU as well as being an incredibly fun movie.

Shang-Chi' blasts Labor Day records with $71.4M debut - The San Diego Union-Tribune

In fact, the overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth continued to stream in through the air waves and the film shattered all expectations, making nearly $100 million during the four-day Labor Day weekend, silencing all the naysayers in the process.

Now, after its fourth week of success at the box-office (becoming only the third Marvel movie to stay #1 at the box-office for four straight weeks alongside Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy) Shang-Chi has only broken more ground, becoming the highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office. And while all of this success for the incredibly deserving latest addition to the MCU sounds great on the surface there are a lot of variables to the film’s box-office triumphs(?)

(This is a bit of a longread.)

Will We See a Version of Party Thor in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’?

Last week’s episode of What If…? showcased Thor in a bit of a different light as we saw him avoiding the responsibilities of being Prince of Asgard and instead he went full-blown teenager-party mode on everyone.

When the episode ended I couldn’t help thinking about Thor: Love and Thunder and how we may see a very party-centric Thor in that movie.

We can’t forget he’s now with the Guardians of the Galaxy who are known to participate in some galactic shenanigans and with his new look,

Thor: Love and Thunder Filming Wraps, Chris Hemsworth Reveals on Instagram | Entertainment News

it’s very clear that this version of Thor will probably have at least a little bit of a good time. Could we see a bit of that Party Thor vibe crossover into Thor: Love and Thunder? Or will Gorr the God Butcher (played by Christian Bale) arrive before Thor can have too much fun?

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day.

Yes, We’re Getting an Animated ‘Super Mario’ Next Year and Here’s the Cast

Movie studios have now struck another angle to get seats in butts and that is the sudden willingness to adapt beloved games into films. And after the success and impending sequel for Sonic the Hedgehog’s movies it was only a matter of time before we’d get a Mario film. The cast, however, was just announced last night and boy is it a star-studded ensemble. Check it out.

Chris Pratt is Mario

Mario - Wikipedia

Yes, you’re hearing correctly. The man who brought Emmet from The Lego Movie to life is now lending his voice to Mario which is a bit confusing but could turn out to be kind of brilliant.

Anya Taylor-Joy is Peach

Princess Peach - Wikipedia

This makes sense. In fact, she could play a live-action Peach. That’s how perfect this casting is.
