I’m fresh off of a three-week Marvel marathon and I’ve seen Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings so it’s time to do a major revamp on this MCU ranking list. Some movies and series will stay where they are in the list but I have definitely garnered new feelings for several of this franchise’s installments. So, with no further delay, let’s see where Shang-Chi ends up.

28. The Incredible Hulk

It’s still at the bottom of the list and most likely, always will. But at least we will be getting Abomination’s return in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk, meaning this ugly duckling of the franchise is finally starting to become a bit more relevant again.

27. Thor

I’ve acquired a slight fondness for this movie since the last time I watched it. It’s got one of the most emotional and best acted scenes in the MCU between Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins and it’s funnier than expected too. But…and that’s a very large but, it just isn’t that great. It never has been.

26. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I know some people love this movie but I’m not one of them. It’s a visually impressive film and Ego is a decent villain but this movie just doesn’t strike me as fun, funny, or fantastic.

25. Ant-Man and the Wasp

Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fun movie, there’s no doubt about that, but Ghost is one of the worst villains in the MCU and nowadays, I have no urge to watch this film anymore.

24. Iron Man 2

After actually paying attention to Iron Man and then watching this sequel shortly afterward I realized this film is regarded so poorly. Tony Stark was a character you rooted for and understood in the first movie, but this movie turns him into an almost unlikable douchebag. The film ultimately suffers from a lackluster sequel storyline and because of that, it’s getting pushed farther and farther down the totem pole.

23. Captain Marvel

This movie is easy to watch and that’s what it’s got going for it. Plus, Carol Danvers, once she reaches full potential with her powers, is pretty darn cool. But the story is boring and honestly, this movie is only held together by its mostly interesting characters.

22. Iron Man 3

I haven’t watched this movie in years but honestly, with my latest viewing I kind of had a blast. The writers got back to making Stark a likable character with an important storyline and this film has become even more important thanks to Shang-Chi. Yay!

21. Thor: The Dark World

This movie has actually grown on me. I’ve seen it…four times now and with every viewing it gets more and more enjoyable. It’s surprisingly funny, Loki is fantastic in the film, and it’s darker than you would actually think.

What this movie suffers from is sticking to a coherent theme. At times it wants to be an emotional yet epic family drama while at other times it wants to be a comedy. These warring themes create a film that doesn’t have a solid identity, resulting in a film that’s ultimately pretty forgettable.

But I’m starting to like this movie and that’s something I never thought would happen.

20. Avengers: Age of Ultron

This movie used to be really enjoyable. Unfortunately, it just isn’t anymore. The only reason why I still occasionally watch this movie is because it is, in fact, an Avengers movie.

19. Ant-Man

Ant-Man isn’t the best Marvel origin story but it does have its moments. And the film’s climax is undoubtedly the best part of the movie. I absolutely love the final showdown between Ant-Man and Yellow Jacket. It’s absolutely hilarious.

18. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

If you had told me a few months ago that I would have this show ranked only above Ant-Man I would’ve been mortified but it’s the truth.

This show isn’t exactly bad. In fact, it’s pretty good. This series however lacked a likable or engaging villain, the heavy-handed handling of the racial elements in this show are distracting, and this show just feels rushed after a while.

John Walker murders a man in broad daylight but then a few days later shows up in New York City still trying to be Captain America and isn’t arrested. Instead, he gets a suit change and a new alias. The villains’ motivations are so murky it takes several episodes to figure out what they’re trying to do and by the time you do you don’t care. Zemo’s in the show but he’s not that pivotal of an addition. Sharon’s a villain now. Okay…? It’s just…a bit of a mess.

In fact, I don’t plan on watching this show for a while. That’s how boring it is.

17. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a good movie with one of the best plot twists in the MCU but it’s twenty minutes too long. After a while, the film gets exhausting and I lose all interest. But if it’s on television I let it play in the background.

16. Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is a good film, through and through. It takes these heroes, pits them against each other in a legitimate way (unlike Batman vs. Superman which forced Batman and Superman to fight for practically no reason at all), and delivered a powerful conclusion that actually left some serious repercussions for these characters. Unfortunately, over the years, it’s kind of boring. But for first-time viewers, this movie is off the chain!

15. Captain America: The First Avenger

This movie has aged very well! When it first came out, I thought it was pretty lame but now, it’s undoubtedly one of the MCU’s best origin stories. Yes, its third act is a bit rushed and some of the lines are a bit cheesy but overall, this film still manages to make me cry every time.

14. Iron Man

The first Iron Man film is clearly written very well and manages to be an engaging superhero origin story. While I still can’t place this movie any higher on this list I do regard it with more respect than I used to.

13. Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home is good but it isn’t spectacular. It’s ultimately Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio that keeps me coming back to see this film over and over again. I hope he returns for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

12. Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame would be lower on this list if wasn’t for its final hour which is so darn great. There are so many lovable and iconic moments in that final battle; from Cap wielding Mjolnir to Spider-Man meeting Captain Marvel for the first time to Tony’s final heroic moment, this movie delivers where it counts and that’s why this film will always have a special place in my heart.

11. WandaVision

WandaVision was fun, fresh, and new. Plus, the way it shined a light on Wanda’s evolution into becoming the Scarlet Witch was pretty fantastic. Despite its pros it had a lot of cons and that was brought on by a story that didn’t feel as cohesive as it could’ve been by rushing things toward the end. But yes, it was still far better than I could’ve possibly imagined.

10. Black Panther

Black Panther is great but over the years it has become one of the Marvel movies that I don’t tend to watch as much. But it still has its charm; the Oscar-winning musical score is legitimately fantastic, Killmonger is still one of my favorite Marvel characters, and the world of Wakanda is still just as fascinating as it was three years ago.

9. The Avengers

This is another one of those Marvel movies that has aged exceptionally over the years (well, Captain America’s suit is still awful but we can deal with that.) It balances great action scenes with a phenomenal story that brings these incredible heroes together in a way that was cohesive and profoundly enjoyable.

8. Doctor Strange

I love Doctor Strange and I love his origin story. This movie is one of the most rewatchable Marvel films because it’s the perfect length, has engaging characters, a nice musical score, and Doctor Strange’s world is just so intriguing. I’m so excited for his sequel!

7. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

This movie did not stray from the task of telling a powerful story steeped in Asian culture while also managing to just be a marvel of a movie. I stared at the screen with my mouth agape for much of the film’s final act. Not to mention, this movie made me cry quite a bit in its climax.

While I cannot put it any higher on this list due to some of its cornier moments I can honestly say Marvel truly made Shang-Chi a character worth caring about. It’s a wonderful movie for Asian representation and I’m just so happy to see so many beautiful Asian faces on the big screen.

6. Black Widow

Yes, I may be one of the few people who liked Black Widow more than Shang-Chi but this movie delivered in ways I never expected. The action scenes were phenomenal and gritty, I loved every character, and this movie is also surprisingly more emotional than expected.

I’ve seen this movie at least eight times by now, which just goes to show how surprisingly fantastic this film truly is.

5. Thor: Ragnarok

Wacky in almost every way, Thor: Ragnarok decided to take things in a drastically different direction for Thor and it paid off big time. There’s so much to love about this movie it would take an entire post to list all of my favorite things so I’ll just leave it to this: “Get help.”

4. Loki

Loki was an amazing series that wowed me week after week. Whenever I thought the series would get corny or disappoint me it did something that made me laugh or shocked me in a way I didn’t see coming. Honestly, if the third episode hadn’t been slightly boring I probably would have it second just behind Infinity War. But because Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier were perfect movies, Loki takes a nice spot at fourth on this list.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy

This was the first Marvel movie to take things outside of the box and offer viewers something they would never forget. It was a risk, for sure, but it was well worth the reward.

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Even though this movie is seven-years-old now it’s still a masterpiece in superhero movie making. It’s perfect from start to finish while also establishing Captain America as one of the best superheroes ever to be put on the big screen.

1. Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War is one of those movies that you watch and then watch again and then watch again and it just never gets old. In fact, it’s getting better. With so many surprises and well, Thanos, Infinity War stands as the pinnacle of Marvel’s storytelling and it’s going to take something truly brilliant to surpass it.
